Another Tuesday Morning in Paradise.... Hey, it could be a LOT worse! I know quite a few people I used to work with, that got laid off long after me, that still aren't working. Some are in part time jobs.. trying to make ends meet. Has anyone read Curt's blog lately? Yes, IT people wield Absolute Power. Mere mortals fear us because we can take away their internet connection (no E-Bay when they're supposed to be working), their email (so they can't send those horrible chain emails), and when the poop hits the fan (when a virus strikes their machine), we can pull the plug altogether. Yes, those people that download tons of games at their desks, and wonder WHY they got a virus! *gasp* Then they complain when I pull their plug. Or there's the doctor that put a CD in a drive off-center, and the spindle wore a hole in her "Big Bird and Ernie Teach your A-B-C's", to entertain her kid (who didn't belong in work to begin with), and wanted US to pay for a new CD! Took away her PC for 3 days... she wasn't very happy. Then, as Curt will attest, there are the "typical" computer users: 1. Users that give you the diagnosis of the problem, and tell you exactly how to fix it. Makes you want to drop off the part and let them fix it. "Sure that cable goes there, but only 1 of 2 ways. One way makes it work, the other smokes it" Go ahead. 2. Users that hover so close, that when you move you bump them all the time. Hey, I don't stare over your shoulder when you work, don't hover over mine. (then they say "What's that, What's that... repeat" 3. Users that vehemently deny causing the problem, but are guilty as sin of downloading "Doom" on their PC. Give me a break. I do this for a living. I'm your GOD! 4. The person that, 30 seconds into getting there, says "Why not call the company?" Can I at least TRY to fix it first? I'd rather sacrifice a cat right there on the keyboard than be put on hold for 20 minutes by the manufacturer's support staff. 5. Purchasing people that change what you wanted to purchase. They say "I saved $3.00 by getting you this RAM instead". When it doesn't work, of course they blame it on someone else, not on them trying to save $3. More tomorrow, on to the news: Hey Bruce, here's one for you: LSU sophomore who's never played a minute of college basketball declares for NBA draft. High school coach: "For two or three minutes he's as good as anyone" Woman has dispute with two other women, lists their names and phone numbers as sex workers in local newspaper. Callers dismayed to discover that Pauline was wheelchair-bound, 72, and not actually interested in sex talk List of 100 Greatest War Films. Omissions of Pearl Harbor and U-571 gives it at least some credibility (though, lack of Band of Brothers makes me believe the list sucks) "Doctor Who" episode raises contoversy as an evil robot (a Dalek) is tortured! People, it's a robot. People, it's evil. People, IT'S A TV SHOW! That's all for today... Enjoy! |
