Post 687 Another C-C-C-Cooooooooold morning! It's incredibly cold again this morning.. but clear out with a bright blue sky. Happy Fat Tuesday all... hope you all check out the Bourbo-Cam tonight for all the festivities (see yesterday's blog for the link). Ray came over last night to watch the UCONN Women play (they lost), and he brought me a nice bottle of Jamaican Jerk Seasoning from his vacation! Can't wait to try it. Now, I might have mentioned that I asked my son if he wanted me to take him somewhere special for his 21st birthday coming up in April. I offered to take him to Las Vegas... and all I got was *shrug* "nah.... I don't think so...". I offered a dozen different places to go, he and I, to have some kind of fun... and nothing. Yesterday, I was telling a co-worker about this and she said "Boy, is he your wife's son" to which I laughed so hard I almost cried..... how true. They say deaths of famous people happen in threes.... Rest in Peace Darren McGavin and Dennis Weaver. I got a good funny this morning from a dear friend Kelley, so let me share: Qantas Airlines It takes a college degree to fly a plane but only a high school diploma to fix one: a reassurance for those of us who fly routinely in their jobs. After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form called a "gripe sheet" that tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems and document their repairs on the form. The pilots then review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident. P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tire. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft. P: Something loose in cockpit. S: Something tightened in cockpit. P: Dead bugs on windshield. S: Live bugs on back-order. P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent. S: Can not reproduce problem on ground. P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. S: Evidence removed. P: DME volume unbelievably loud. S: DME volume set to more believable level. P: Friction locks causes throttle levers to stick. S: That's what they're for. P: IFF inoperative. S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode. P: Suspected crack in windshield. S: Suspect you're right. P: Number 3 engine missing. S: Engine found on right wing after brief search. P: Aircraft handles funny. (I love this one!) S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious. P: Target radar hums. S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics. P: Mouse in cockpit. S: Cat installed. And the best one for last............... P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer. S: Took hammer away from midget. On to the news: "The electric-powered device is said to activate the gases in the canned beer to make it seem similar to the draught version" No matter what color it is, don't eat the snow in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire Hey Bob, maybe you can TEACH Truck Driving? Trucker tears down five utility poles, phone lines. Notices a mile later when trailer's sides collapse because the roof was ripped off Here's one for you Bruce: Roger Clemens surrenders homerun to own son, gives him the brushback on his next at-bat. And you thought YOUR dad was a dick Tomorrow is National Pancake Day. Enjoy a free shortstack from 7am to 2pm. Bunnies not included That's it for today... have a great day! Monday, February 27, 2006
Post 686 It's C-C-Coooooooooold outside! Wow.... yesterday I don't think it got above 15 out, and today, it's -5F with the wind chill, although it LOOKS beautiful out. I had the wood stove going all day yesterday.. and it was great. Nice and warm in the family room while watching our UCONN Huskies beat up on Villanova yesterday! It's actually getting light out a lot earlier now.. the sun is just about to come up over the highway in front of me on my drive into work (groan). Yeah, a good and bad thing. One of the worst things about this job (and it's nitpicking), is driving into the sun coming into work, and going home. Friday night, my friend Dave and I went out for dinner and a movie. We saw "The Pink Panther", with Steve Martin and I was all set for it to suck... but I was surprised big time, as it was actually quite good! He's not Peter Sellers, but he did a great job. My friend Bubba has a new blog up. Please check it out (on left called Points to Ponder). Aaron, if you go there, have you ever heard of that restaurant? I have to say, it is nice to see Mardi Gras going on in high spirits! Has anyone been watching the NOLA Bourbo-Cam? And on a sadder note, did everyone notice that Don Knotts passed away this weekend? And Curt, this is for you bud: The North has coffee houses, The South has Waffle Houses The North has dating services, The South has family reunions. The North has switchblade knives, The South has Lee Press-on Nails The North has double last names, The South has double first names. The North has Indy car races, The South has stock car races. The North has Cream of Wheat, The South has grits. The North has green salads, The South has collard greens The North has lobsters, The South has crawfish. The North has the rust belt, The South has the Bible Belt. FOR NORTHERNERS MOVING SOUTH . . . In the South: If you run your car into a ditch, don't panic. Four men in a four-wheel drive pickup truck with a tow chain will be along shortly. Don't try to help them, just stay out of their way. This is what they live for. Don't be surprised to find movie rentals and bait in the same store....do not buy food at this store. Remember, "y'all" is singular, "all y'all" is! plural, and "all y'all's" is plural possessive.! Get used to hearing "You ain't from round here, are ya?" Save all manner of bacon grease. You will be instructed later on how to use it. Don't be worried at not understanding what people are saying. They can't understand you either. The first Southern statement to creep into a transplanted Northerner's vocabulary is the adjective "big'ol," truck or big'ol" boy. Most Northerners begin their Southern-influenced dialect this way. All of them are in denial about it. The proper pronunciation you learned in school is no longer proper. Be advised that "He needed killin" is a valid defense here. If you hear a Southerner exclaim, "Hey, y'all, watch this," you should stay out of the way. These are likely to be the last words he'll ever say. If there is the prediction of the slightest chance of even the smallest accumulation of snow, your presence is required at the local grocery store. It doesn't matter whether you need anything or not. You just have to go there. Do not be surprised to find that 10-year olds own their own shotguns, they are proficient marksmen, and their mammas taught them how to aim In the South, we have found that the best way to grow a lush green lawn is to pour gravel on it and call it a driveway. AND REMEMBER: If you do settle in the South and bear children, don't think we will accept them as Southerners. After all, if the cat had kittens in the oven, we wouldn't call 'em biscuits. On to the news: Brazilian bobsled team still a little unclear on the concept, run course upside down (with pic) Karen, have you been to Maine lately? A mysterious vibration, which can't be detected by instruments, is shaking Maine Hey Bruce, you'll love this one: The 50 greatest sports moments of all time Are you homeless and a drunk in Canada? They are now giving "wine therapy" to bums, on the hour - morning till night And something just for cat lovers Carrie and Karen... *S* That's it for today... enjoy your Monday! Post 685 TGIF... once again...! Yeah, even 3 day workweeks can feel like forever sometimes... as this week did. I was listening to the radio this morning, when I heard about the new advertisement for the Australia Tourism Bureau.. and the new commercial they have is fantastic!. If you go to this website, click on the media player of choice, and listen and watch the commercial. It's excellent. Oh, and check out the name of the website! *LOL* Sure, I'd love to go to Australia... but it's one of those places you'll need at least 2 weeks to explore at the least. I'll also wait for those new REAL fast jets to get you there a lot faster. Otherwise, you lose at least a day both ways. No big plans this weekend... what about all of you? I came in work real early this morning to update my servers here... it's nice being here when nobody's here! You can get a lot done. Well, on to the news as I'm pretty busy here...: Can you believe this? New Jersey considering creating drivers license specifically for illegal immigrants. What's wrong with this picture? And in Connecticut news: Man on fishing expedition snags 360-foot-long nuclear submarine. Had no way to mount it. And down yonder near you Curt: Elderly lady mistakes offramp for onramp. Hilarity ensues (with video goodness) And for us techies: 3D Web browser might display porn sites like never before Ok.. I live for stories like this. Play the video, and listen.. and watch. Autistic teenager gets his chance to play on the high school basketball team and scores 20 points in three minutes Now, for My BOTD! And there's always room for one more! Have a great weekend all...! Post 684 Hello... is anyone out there??? Well, thank goodness this week is almost over. I'm starting to itch for spring. Ever have one of those moments.. where you draw a blank trying to think of someone's name in a movie.. and it drives you NUTS?? Last night, my daughter and I were talking about this new, blonde, James Bond in the next movie when I said "They should have brought back the guy before Pierce Brosnan", to which she said "Who?". And there, I drew a blank on the name Timothy Dalton, who played Bond in only 2 movies, The Living Daylights and License to Kill. I really liked him as James Bond. He wasn't a "prettyboy" like Pierce or Roger Moore, he was more rough around the edges like my very favorite, Sean Connery. But... for some reason, they cast Pierce after Timothy doing 2 movies. But I digress. I was thinking about it from the moment I was talking to my daughter, lying in bed, when I got up this morning, driving into work... GRRRR! *LOL* Thank goodness for the IMDB (Internet Movie DataBase). And, from my friend Kelley, some cool facts (some of which I knew, others not): THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW, BUT PROBABLY DON'T............ 1 . Money isn't made out of paper, it's made out of cotton. 2. Post 683 I should have taken the whole week off.... It was SO hard to get up this morning after a nice 4 day weekend. Well, it was a wonderful weekend. Saturday, my friend Ray called and asked if we wanted to go out to dinner with he and his wife for his birthday. We went to a great steakhouse, and had a wonderful time. He left Sunday morningn for vacation in Jamaica. This is the same vacation with all the people like when we went to Costa Rica last February. My wife didn't want to go this year.. oh well. Sunday was a normal "go to see mom" kinda day.. then went to a friends house to watch the Daytona 500. Monday, we took my wife's car to have it's transmission replaced under warranty, then went out clothing shopping where I got a new pair of sneakres, and a pair of Dockers. Yesterday, we went to IKEA for the first time (daughter had been there, but not me or my wife). It was interesting.. and daughter picked up a night table, and the wife and I picked up a few small items. Well, not much more to say, and it's going to be a REAL busy day today in work.. on on to the news: Top 10 strangest MP3 players Today's mind-bendingly addictive flash puzzle game: Blueprint In a *yawn* surprising revelation, Paris Hilton admits there is another sex tape out there. Post 682 New England Weather.. if you don't like it, wait a bit, it'll change... Yesterday, it was almost 60 degrees out! The 22 inches of snow that fell Saturday evening, is gone in some places. I can see grass in my backyard again. How weird is that. This afternoon, a cold front is coming through. It's 54 this morning, and before I go home, it'll be in the 20's. Well, I have a 4 day weekend coming up.. I get Monday off for Washington's Birthday, but I'm taking a vacation day on Tuesday. Bruce, don't tell mom I'm off! Other than that, not much planned for Saturday and Sunday.... though Monday and Tuesday we do have plans. Have you heard the latest Dick Cheney joke? The new White House theme song is "Cheney's got a gun..." (sung to Janie's got a gun) Anyways, not too much to talk about this morning, so on to the news: Olympic teams from around the world appreciate Italy's ready supply of porno vending machines Middle school teacher in trouble after allowing his students to pay him a $1 a day to get out of gym class This is an incredible read: Recent law school graduate commits professional suicide via email forwards Man gets eight Japanese investors to buy "rare" American $1,000,000 bill, even though the US has never issued anything over $100,000 And of course, it wouldn't be Friday without my BOTD! Post 680 Another Hump-Day... Well, the wife LOVED the fruit! Her and her girlfriends at work pored over the juicy sweet red strawberries, grapes, grapefruit, melon and chocolate covered strawberries! There was still plenty to bring home, and I had some with her. I can't believe how incredibly sweet and dark red the strawberries are! Either way, she's one VERY happy girl! *S* Curt, now I never thought for a minute, that you would celebrate the misery of another. Sad Curt... very sad. Unfortunately, I forgot to mention till late yesterday, that the great funny I had on my blog came from my dear friend michelle. My bad. Other than that... not much new going on. The weather's warming up a bit.. supposed to be in the 50's in the next 2 days.. then turn cold but it should get rid of a lot of the snow. On to the news: Dick Cheney in trouble with law. ![]() Post 679 White, white everywhere... Happy Velentines Day Everyone! Here's hoping all your Valentines are happy ones... *S* Well, this is what I sent my wife at work, for Velentines Day. What do you think??? Yeah, there's still a LOT of snow everywhere. 22 inches will be that way for a bit. The good news is, it's supposed to get warmer all week, so maybe we'll melt some of it. Well, the UCONN Men won Saturday night, but lost last night in a hurribly officiated game. I swear, someone's going to get hurt soon in the Big East Conference. They're letting all kinds of hard fouls go uncalled. Good grief... our Vice President SHOT another hunter, then there was/is a media fiasco over them trying to cover it up, or not. Who knows.... but you have to be a pretty poor hunter to shoot a 79 year old man. And now, for a funny: Late Note, the following was sent to me by my dear friend, michelle! The Best "Out of Office" automatic email replies. Try a few yourself: 1. I am currently out at a job interview and will reply to you if I fail to get the position. If I was in, chances are good you wouldn't have received anything at all. You're welcome. 3. Post 678 Anyone want some snow? Well, not a long post this morning, but overnight Saturday, we were supposed to get about 8-12 inches of snow. We got 22 inches. We went from no snow at all on the ground, you could see the grass, everything... to being HEAPED upon by mother nature. Oh well... now we wait for it to melt again. No big plans for today.. and the weekend was great.. hope yours was too. And for just a couple of news items: An interview with Band Camp Girl! And for us science geeks: New microwave drill technology can bore through materials such as concrete and glass, silently and without creating dust WIth all other criminals behind bars, a police arrest a 12-year-old boy who brought powdered sugar to school for a science project and charge him with a felony for possessing a look-alike drug That's it for a slow Monday... have a great day! Post 677 Snow is ON THE WAY! Yep, tomorrow night is supposed to be near blizzard conditions here.. so it looks like winter wants one more white blast before submitting to the inevitable spring. I also put a weather link/graphic at the side of the blog, so you can always see what temp it is here, and by clicking on it, you can see what the forecast is going to be here. Enjoy. (I even put up the F/C one, for my northern neighbors!) Not much going on this weekend... going to maybe go see mom tomorrow instead of Sunday morning because of the storm. Oh, one other thing... I have Monday off of work, so there MAY be no blog on Monday. Depends on how early I get up (or late, as the case may be). Other than that, I'll probably watch a few basketball games this weekend.. just do some things indoors. And now, on to the news: (Hey Karen, do you have one of these? *LOL*) British adult-toy company releases new male blow-up doll named "Mustafa Shag," not realizing Mustafa is another name for The Prophet. What could possibly go wrong? Woman gets naked and paints herself like a tiger to protest the circus. Onlookers don't know or care why she is protesting, just happy for the boobies (safe for work) Man gets attacked by pet fish. Now I've seen it all. You've heard of Google Earth. Here's Google Moon! And now... My B's OTD! And there's Always room for one more! Have a great weekend all! Thursday, February 09, 2006
Post 676 Just another Thursday morning... Yep, just another Thursday morning... when the #1 ranked UCONN Men's basketball team won handily over Syracuse! Lets put it this way, being as it was a late game (started at 9pm) it was over by halftime, and I went to sleep early in the second half, secure of a win. I'm going to raise my cup of coffee this morning, to those wonderful people that get up REALLY early in the morning to make bagels for me for breakfast. Their hard work is NOT unappreciated! (I just really needed a good cup of coffee and bagel this morning!) Right now I'm having a wonderful "French Toast" bagel with cream cheese.. Mmmmm! Oh, here's something for all you women that don't understand men... *way innocent smile* Because I'm a man, when I lock my keys in the car, I will fiddle with a coat hanger long after hypothermia has set in. Calling AAA is not an option. I will win. _________________________________________ Because I'm a man, when the car isn't running very well, I will pop the hood and stare at the engine as if I know what I'm looking at. If another man shows up, one of us will say to the other, "I used to be able to fix these things, but now with all these computers and everything, I wouldn't know where to start." We will then drink a couple of beers and break wind, as a form of holy communion. _______________________________________________ Because I'm a man, when I catch a cold, I need someone to bring me soup and take care of me while I lie in bed and moan. You're a woman. You never get as sick as I do, so for you, this is no problem. _______________________________________________ Because I'm a man, I can be relied upon to purchase basic groceries at the store, like milk or bread. I cannot be expected to find exotic items like "cumin" or "tofu." For all I know, these are the same thing. _______________________________________________ Because I'm a man, when one of our appliances stops working, I will insist on taking it apart, despite evidence that this will just cost me twice as much once the repair person gets here and has to put it back together. ___________________________________________________ Because I'm a man, I must hold the television remote control in my hand while I watch TV. If the thing has been misplaced, I may miss a whole show looking for it.....though one time I was able to survive by holding a calculator.....(applies to engineers mainly). _______________________________________________________ Because I'm a man, there is no need to ask me what I'm thinking about. The true answer is always either sex, cars, sex, sports or sex. I have to make up something else when you ask, so don't ask. _______________________________________________ Because I'm a man, I do not want to visit your mother, or have your mother come visit us, or talk to her when she calls, or! think about her any more than I have to. Whatever you got her for Mother's Day is okay; I don't need to see it. And don't forget to pick up something for my mother, too. _______________________________________________ Because I'm a man, you don't have to ask me if I liked the movie. Chances are, if you're crying at the end of it, I didn't....and if you are feeling amorous afterwards....then I will certainly at least remember the name and recommend it to others. _______________________________________________ Because I'm a man, I think what you're wearing is fine. I thought what you were wearing five minutes ago was fine, too. Either pair of shoes is fine. With the belt or without it, looks fine. Your hair is fine. You look fine. Can we just go now? _______________________________________________ Because I'm a man, and this is, after all, the year 2006, I will share equally in the housework. You just do the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning, the vacuuming, and the dishes, and I'll do the rest...... like wandering around in the garden with a beer wondering what to do. ______________________________________________ This has been a public service message for women to better understand men And now, on to the news: 330 pound woman suing airline for racial discrimination over policy requiring large passengers to buy an extra seat If you're Canadian, don't expect to see "Horny Hot Dog" or "Tonsil Train 3" on store shelves any time soon. Fortunately, there are still plenty of copies of "Total Access--Yes I'm Catholic" available You know Carrie, you were right yesterday when you told me that Montreal is great! *LOL* Montreal city workers take 10 staff hours to fill one pothole, spend the rest of their shift at the fabulous nudie bars Birds crap on Katie Couric at the Olympics. With pics thank goodness! Jimmy Kimmel's "Unnecessary Censorship: Super Bowl Edition" video And, after that heartbreaking story yesterday: Hurt soldier billed for gear to be repaid That's it for today.. have a great Thursday! Post 675 Hump-Day Redux.... It's already Hump-Day. This week seems to be flying by. My friend Ray came over last night to watch the UCONN Women play.. and unfortunately they lost to Rutgers. Oh well.. they played horribly, and deserved to lose, even though they came back from 12 down at the closing minutes. Tonight, the #1 in the country UCONN Men play against Syracuse at home. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Today, a guy I know that grew up, up the street where I live now is applying for a job where I work. Sure hope he gets it as he's a pretty great guy. My son turns 21 in April, and I asked him this past weekend if he wanted to do something special, like I'd take him to Las Vegas for some fun. While he's not a gambler or anything, I explained there's a lot more to do there than gamble. We might go... so stay tuned. And here's something my brother sent me from the news: Army demands $700 from soldier who was wounded The last time 1st Lt. William EddieRebrook IV saw his body armor, he was lying on a stretcher in Iraq, his arm shattered and covered in blood. A field medic tied a tourniquet around Rebrooks right arm to stanch the bleeding from shrapnel wounds. Soldiers yanked off his blood-soaked body armor. He never saw it again. But last week, Rebrook was forced to pay $700 for that body armor, blown up by a roadside bomb more than a year ago. He was leaving the Army for good because of his injuries. He turned in his gear at his base in Fort Hood, Texas. He was informed there was no record that the body armor had been stripped from him in battle. He was told to pay nearly $700 or face not being discharged for weeks, perhaps months. Rebrook, 25, scrounged up the cash from his Army buddies and returned home to Charleston last Friday. I last saw the [body armor] when it was pulled off my bleeding body while I was being evacuated in a helicopter,Rebrook said. They took it off me and burned it. But no one documented that he lost his Kevlar body armor during battle, he said. No one wrote down that armor had apparently been incinerated as a biohazard. Rebrooks mother, Beckie Drumheler, said she was saddened and angry when she learned that the Army discharged her son with a $700 bill. Soldiers who serve their country, those who put their lives on the line, deserve better, she said. Its outrageous, ridiculous and unconscionable,Drumheler said. I wanted to stand on a street corner and yell through a megaphone about this. Rebrook was standing in the turret of a Bradley Fighting Vehicle when the roadside bomb exploded Jan. 11, 2005. The explosion fractured his arm and severed an artery. A Black Hawk helicopter airlifted him to a combat support hospital in Baghdad. He was later flown to a hospital in Germany for surgery, then on to Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital in Washington, D.C., for more surgeries. Doctors operated on his arm seven times in all. But Rebrooks right arm never recovered completely. He still has range of motion problems. He still has pain when he turns over to sleep at night. Even with the injury, Rebrook said he didnt want to leave the Army. He said the medical separationdischarge was the Armys decision, not his. So after eight months at Fort Hood, he gathered up his gear and started the long processto leave the Army for good. Things went smoothly until officers asked him for his OTV,his outer tactical vest,or body armor, which was missing. A battalion supply officer had failed to document the loss of the vest in Iraq. They said that I owed them $700,Rebrook said. It was like thank you for your service, now heres the bill for $700.I had to pay for it if I wanted to get on with my life. In the past, the Army allowed to soldiers to write memos, explaining the loss and destruction of gear, Rebrook said. But a new policy required a report of surveyfrom the field that documented the loss. Rebrook said he knows other soldiers who also have been forced to pay for equipment destroyed in battle. Its a combat loss,he said. It shouldnt be a cost passed on to the soldier. If a soldiers stuff is hit by enemy fire, he shouldnt have to pay for it. Rebrook said he tried to get a battalion commander to sign a waiver on the battle armor, but the officer declined. Rebrook was told hed have to supply statements from witnesses to verify the body armor was taken from him and burned. Theres a complete lack of empathy from senior officers who dont know what its like to be a combat soldier on the ground,Rebrook said. Theres a whole lot of people who dont want to help you. Theyre more concerned with process than product. Rebrook, who graduated with honors from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., spent more than four years on active duty. He served six months in Iraq. Now, Rebrook is sending out résumés, trying to find a job. He plans to return to college to take a couple of pre-med classes and apply to medical school. He wants to be a doctor someday. From being an infantryman, I know what its like to hurt people,Rebrook said. But now Id like to help people. Not much more to report, so on to the news: Man calls escort service. Girl (underage) dies in his home from cocaine. Man, with help of 4 others, dumps her body. Man gets bail. Post 674 As the Weather Turns... Could be the name of a sitcom... but all of a sudden, the weather has turned cold again. There's barely any snow left, other than in the big piles that the snow plow once scraped up, and even those are pretty small now. Spring is coming though... I can see it when I come in to work and go home. The days are getting longer, and that's great for me. Hopefully, it'll be about 6 or so weeks before I take my toy out of storage and have some fun again. Welcome to Alvis, a new reader from over at Mark's blog! His blog is a pretty good read, so stop by and see it! And for a humor break: New Rules by George Carlin: New Rule: Stop giving me that pop-up ad for Classmates.com! There's a reason you don't talk to people for 25 years. Because you don't particularly like them! Besides, I already know what the captain of the football team is doing these days: mowing my lawn. New Rule: Don't eat anything that's served to you out a window unless you're a seagull. People are acting all shocked that a human finger was found in a bowl of Wendy's chili. Hey, it cost less than a dollar. What did you expect it to contain? Trout? New Rule: Stop saying that teenage boys who have sex with their hot, blonde teachers are permanently damaged. I have a better description for these kids: lucky bastards. New Rule: If you need to shave and you still collect baseball cards, you're gay. If you're a kid, the cards are keepsakes of your idols. If you're a grown man, they're pictures of men. New Rule: Ladies, leave your eyebrows alone. Here's how much men care about your eyebrows: do you have two of them? Okay, we're done. New Rule: There's no such thing as flavored water. There's a whole aisle of this crap at the supermarket - water, but without that watery taste. Sorry, but flavored water is called a soft drink. You want flavored water? Pour some scotch over ice and let it melt. That's your flavored water. New Rule: Stop f***ing with old people. Target is introducing a redesigned pill bottle that's square, with a bigger label. And the top is now the bottom. And by the time grandpa figures out how to open it, his ass will be in the morgue. Congratulations, Target, you just solved the Social Security crisis. New Rule: The more complicated the Starbucks order, the bigger the asshole. If you walk into a Starbucks and order a "decaf grande half-soy, half-low fat, iced vanilla, double-shot, gingerbread cappuccino, extra dry, light ice, with one Sweet-n'-Low and one NutraSweet," ooh, you're a huge asshole. New Rule: I'm not the cashier! By the time I look up from sliding my card, entering my PIN number, pressing "Enter," verifying the amount, deciding, no, I don't want cash back, and pressing "Enter" again, the kid who is supposed to be ringing me up is standing there eating my Almond Joy. New Rule: Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to "beef with broccoli." The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high. New Rule: Competitive eating isn't a sport. It's one of the seven deadly sins. ESPN recently televised the US Open of Competitive Eating, because watching those athletes at the poker table was just too damned exciting. What's next, competitive farting? Oh wait. They're already doing that. It's called "The Howard Stern Show." New Rule: I don't need a bigger mega M&M. If I'm extra hungry for M&Ms, I'll go nuts and eat two. New Rule: If you're going to insist on making movies based on crappy, old television shows, then you have to give everyone in the Cineplex a remote so we can see what's playing on the other screens. Let's remember the reason something was a television show in the first place is that the idea wasn't good enough to be a movie. New Rule: No more gift registries. You know, it used to be just for weddings. Now it's for babies and new homes and graduations from rehab. Picking out the stuff you want and having other people buy it for you isn't gift giving, it's the white people version of looting. New Rule: and this one is long overdue: No more bathroom attendants. After I zip up, some guy is offering me a towel and a mint like I just had sex with George Michael. I can't even tell if he's supposed to be there, or just some freak with a fetish. don't want to be on your webcam, dude. I just want to wash my hands. New Rule: When I ask how old your toddler is, I don't need to know in months. "27 Months." "He's two," will do just fine. He's not a cheese. And I didn't really care in the first place Not too much to report today, so on to the news: Swimming race abandoned in Australia after shark fails to register fairly like all the other swimmers Paris Hilton buys bar so she won't have to worry about getting thrown out when she gets drunk Upset by what he paid for a new Ford Escape, man returns the vehicle to the dealership. Post 673 Tale of the Whirlwind Weekend... This weekend really sailed by quickly. Friday night, I spent some time with mom until my daughter got there (she stayed overnight), then I went back Saturday morning for a bit. I went home around noon after laughing a lot at mom's about how she got "loopy" on some of the pain meds. Had my daughter in stitches all night. At 1pm on Saturday, my frirend Ray came over to watch the UCONN men play (they won), then a bit later we went out to dinner with Ray and his wife to The Texas Roadhouse Grill which was fantastic! This was our first time there, and we'll definitely be back again. I had enough food to have dinner the next day, and it was very inexpensive. After dinner, back to Ray's house to watch the UCONN Women play (and win). Sunday, we again went to visit my mom, and my daughter stayed there to make "Monkey Bread" with her. My son and I went to start up the Vette, and I even took it up the street a bit as it was gorgeous out. Last night, of course I watched the Super Bowl. First, the commercials. Compared to the past, the commercials were awful. There were a couple that were pretty good, but none of them were drop-dead hilarious. The GoDaddy.com one was good, the FedEx one with the cavemen was ok, and a couple of the Budweiser ones were ok. The game... well, I didn't want one team over another to win, but I think Seattle got robbed. The officiating was incredibly biased towards Pittsburgh. 'nuff said. ![]() And I have a funny for you today: 7 Degrees of Blonde `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* FIRST DEGREE A married couple were asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the morning. The wife (undoubtedly blonde), picked up the phone, listened a moment and said, "How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!" and hung up. The husband said, "Who was that?" The wife said, "I don't know, some woman wanting to know if the coast is clear." `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* SECOND DEGREE Two blondes are walking down the street. One notices a compact on the sidewalk and leans down to pick it up. She opens it, looks in the mirror and says, "Hmm, this person looks familiar." The second blonde says, "Here, let me see!" So the first blonde hands her the compact. The second one looks in the mirror and says, "You dummy, it's me!" `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* THIRD DEGREE A blonde suspects her boyfriend of cheating on her, so she goes out and buys a gun. She goes to his apartment unexpectedly and when she opens the door she finds him in the arms of a redhead. Well, the blonde is really angry. She opens her purse to take out the gun, and as she does so, she is overcome with grief. She takes the gun and puts it to her head. The boyfriend yells, "No, honey, don't do it!!!" The blonde replies, "Shut up, you're next!" `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* FOURTH DEGREE A blonde was bragging about her knowledge of state capitals. She proudly says, "Go ahead, ask me, I know all of them." A friend says, "OK, what's the capital of Wisconsin?" The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy: W." `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* FIFTH DEGREE What did the blonde ask her doctor when he told her she was pregnant? "Is it mine?" `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* SIXTH DEGREE Bambi, a blonde in her fourth year as a UCLA freshman, sat in her US Government class. The professor asked Bambi if she knew what Roe vs. Wade was about. Bambi pondered the question then finally said, "That was the decision George Washington had to make before he crossed the Delaware" `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* SEVENTH DEGREE Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime. The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps. Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, "I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do? They send me a BLIND policeman." `*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`*:-.,_,-:*`*:-.,_,.-:*`* And now, the news: Someone's idea of the all time Top ten Super Bowl commericals Navy Seals have new high tech boat For us IT guys...this is WAY too cool! Post 672 Another Friday, thank goodness...! Mom's doing fine.. thanks for your kind words and wishes.... *S* I hope Carrie's feeling a bit better today, she was a bit under the weather yesterday. Curt mentioned in his comment yesterday, "Dave called my wife yesterday. I just wanted everyone to know...". Damn right I called your wife! She's got a LOT sweeter voice than you, and she's MUCH better looking! *LOL* (course, I was calling to get Curt's work phone #) You have to understand, Curt's wife is sweeter than honey from the hive, and just as pretty. Curt, looks like an ole coon-dog that's been on one too many hunts... *LOL* Just kidding bud.. you know I love ya! Hey, he emailed me asking for some "IT" help, and it was a lot easier to talk to him than write it all out... *S* Hope it worked Curt. Wednesday, my son was working (cashier at huge supermarket), and someone gave him a dime that at first, looked like a canadian one. On closer inspection, he saw it said "United States" on it, so he replaced 2 nickels for it and brought it home. Turns out, it's an 1875-CC dime, in exceptional condition! THe CC was a mintmark for "Carson City", and after looking it up, is 90% silver from the Comstock Lode! There's some cool stories online about these dimes. Doing a bit of research, they can sell for from $25, to well over $25,000 depending on condition as no mint sets were ever produced of them. And now, on to the news: Bush vows to cut Middle East oil imports by 75 percent in his SOTU address. His energy secretary says he "didn't meant it literally" and it "was purely an example" Power goes out at a brewpub, a public cry goes out to save/drink the beer, Dave is on his way to the airport! *LOL* NYC girl puts up 113 in HS hoops game, tells Kobe to suck it. Post 671 Call me old-fashioned... call me anal... (or don't) But there are certain things I like, a certain way. It's getting more and more as I get older. Yesterday brought me a couple of things that surprised me. One, I got a very stern email about my "Bush Bashing" from a dear friend. He said it was "offensive", and I was a bit shocked. See, I BELIEVE in the First Amendment, Freedom oe Speech, which gives me the right to say whatever I want here. But this doesn't have to do with that really, it has to do with being able to disagree with someone and remain friends. Now, he and I have moved on after exchanging a few emails, but still, his words asked me to seperate the political stuff from the fun stuff (I thought it was, fun stuff is below the "on to the news" line). Either way, I made it clear to him that I'm not going to change what I post, but I'll fight for HIS right to disagree! The second thing that... kinda bothered me was going to a blog I visit quite often, and finding it almost impossible to navigate the links because of something in the software he uses. Once again, his blog, his way, I won't argue that. But I'm always wary of clicking on a link when I can't see in the status bar where it's taking me (he has a scrolling message there that covers it up). That, and the fact that when you do click on a link, it brings up a browser window that's incomplete. No buttons at top, no location bar so you can see where you are.... just "bugs" me I guess. *shrug* Guess I'm getting old. Like I said, his blog, his way. Anyways... on to better news. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAREN! Yes, Karen is a year older today... *S* Hope you have the best day ever hon! Today is the day mom has her operation, so I'll be leaving work a bit early to go see her. Any good thoughts for her would be appreciated. Oh well... on to the news: Ozzy's fat daughter says Paris Hilton is a bad influence on young girls because of the way she dresses. Apparently she finds no fault in being a drunk, stoned, abrasive brat Winter storm dumps a foot of snow in Hawaii. Locals ditch their surfboards for snowboards. KOWABUNGA DUDE! (w/pic) This is hilarious: Super Bowl media day included questions "What's the hardest you ever farted?" and "Which would hurt more -- losing to Pittsburgh or sitting on the Space Needle?" You HAVE to click this just to see the picture! Incredible Hulk arrested selling crack in Augusta. Lou Ferrigno surrenders (some of these just write themselves!) College cheerleader gets knocked off the squad for working at Hooters, told that thanks to Hooters, the squad now has a black eye (pic) Top ten myths about hybrid cars And JUST FOR YOU PAUL: George W. Post 670 Happy February, and Hump-Day again.... Well, another night with another bunch of crap from our fearless leader in his State of the Union address. I can understand why his approval rating is beneath whale poo... it seems he doesn't have a clue. Oh well.. at least I can say I didn't vote for him. I hear this morning that the UCONN Health Center where I work is opening a new operation in Hartford that I'll most likely be responsible for (IT wise). Job security! *chuckling* And how about the news that says "Official: Postal killer had 'psychological problems". Does this come from the Department of DUH? I must be getting old.... first was listening to talk radio on the way into work (I can at least give a reason that they have traffic reports that have saved my butt more than once), but now, on the way home, I discovered ESPN Radio! It's talk radio with Dan Patrick, one of the ESPN Sportscenter announcers. Did you all know that ESPN is in the town where I grew up and live? Well, on to the news as it's going to be a REALLY busy day: Canada's human rights commission to investigate whether stewardesses should be paid same as airline pilots and mechanics Hmm... my opinion here would get me a smack.. *chuckle* Dominatrix beats rap, whips prosecutor, boots judge, applies handcuffs Probably the best mug-shot you'll see this year!(PS, he beat up his girlfriend) Ok, this should keep most men busy all day: AskMen's annual Top 99 Most Desirable Women kicks off today. Pregnant woman schedules early induction so she'll be home to watch Super Bowl (My kinda woman! LOL) Another good reason to read the label: Man, reading label on package of sliced ham, nonplussed to discover "dog sh*t" among listed ingredients. "Obviously I haven't eaten it. It sort of puts you off" In hindsight, operating that brothel right across the street from the police station may not have been the brightest idea That's it for today... enjoy your Hump-Day! |
