Happy Friday!

Well, Baseball season is over, BUT, College Basketball begins next week! Our National Champion UCONN Husky Mens and Womens teams begin defense of their national titles. That means my friend Ray will be coming to my house to watch most of the games and we'll cheer our teams on. It's a great season, sports-wise for me.

My brother and his wife are probably on the plane as I write this heading to Disney World. I sent him some "Must See's" in his email last night, as he's never been before. Hopefully he doesn't weeny out and not go on Mission Space, at Epcot.

standing up on my soapbox for a moment..

I had a joke sent to me yesterday, about how painful a mammmogram is, and how it MUST have been invented by a man.. and how women would love to invent a machine to test a mans testicals that squeeze the same way... yadda yadda yah. Please don't send me these jokes.
1. Yes, a man invented the machine in the 1920's
2. He did it to spare women breast cancer, not to see their breasts mashed
3. Do women get their prostates checked like men do, with a probe up there butts?
4. If you don't like the mammogram machine, INVENT YOUR OWN! Stop whining about men. Get a bunch of women to invent one with frills, soft down like fur that cradles the breast, serves cappuchino and bon-bons for all I care, but damn it.. it's 10 minutes of pain/discomfort to save your life.
Just get off the "male bashing", when getting a mammogram please. Jokes are funny, male-bashing just to bash males is not.
getting down off my soapbox
sorry.. that subject always has bothered me.
One last thought. Some women say when they get their mammograms, the technician is fantastic and they get no pain, just mild discomfort. Make it known then, who the good techs are, share the knowledge women, please. Put the pain-meisters out of business.

Like I said yesterday, we go out to dinner tonight with some friends... so I'm excited about that! Other than that, not sure what we have for plans this weekend.

Karen, as requested, here's 3 pictures of my backyard, and the leaves.. *S*

The Boston Red Sox
WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!

The people of New England have something to party about (as we always do), and the Red Sox have swept the curse AND the Cardinals away! I wonder when the last Series sweep was? Hey Colin, you guys still partying up there???

Did anyone get to see the eclipse last night? What a PERFECT night for it here!!! It was gorgeous.

The wife and I are going out to dinner tomorrow night with some old friends of mine from where I used to work (wife's met them many times)... should be a lot of fun!

Karen, about your request from yesterday.. I'll try to snap some pics this afternoon, but the leaves are coming down fast now! It's amazing how they turn such beautiful colors, then wham, fall almost within a week or two!

Hey Paul, when're you going to update your blog bud!

Here's a great Calvin & Hobbes today!

And a cute joke Carrie sent me.. (she's blonde ya know!)

Two blondes living in Texas were sitting on a bench one night talking and the one blond says to the other. "What do you think is farther, Florida or the moon?"

The other blond turns and says "Helloooooooooooooooooooo.... can you see Florida?"

One more small funny before closing...

Have a great Thursday all!

Hump-Day.. don't forget the lunar eclipse tonight!

The eclipse is due to start at about 10:25pm, and end at 11:45pm. It's supposed to be clear here, though I don't know if I'll stay up that late to see it.

It's a typical late October week... very cool, the colorful leaves are falling off the trees.. and within the next 30 days, we'll probably see the first snowflakes (nothing that will stick).

My brother and his wife are going to Disney World this weekend for the first time in their lives! They're going to be like kids in a candy shop! *laugh* They're going to love it. They should get some outstanding weather, and be able to get around without too many kids in their way.

You know, I've been to Orlando 5 or 6 times, and never been to Universal Studios. Maybe sometime next year, we'll have to go check it out. We have a big vacation scheduled for February, an 8 night, all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica with some friends.. and I'm counting the days (115 to go).

And now, the news not fit to print:

Lunar Eclipse Tomorrow Night!

Don't forget to watch the "Ideal Lunar Eclipse", as quoted by Sky and Telescope Magazine! It should be visible to at least the Eastern 2/3'rds of the US. Time should be somewhere around 10:30pm.
I've always loved watching things like lunar and solar eclipses. When I was a kid, in school, we used to get to stop school just to watch rockets blast off for space. They brought in televisions, and everything came to a standstill while we watched in awe as someone strapped a rocket to their backside and shot off into the unknown. How many of you (I bet almost all that were alive) remember where you were on July 20, 1969, watching Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. I do. I was in Houston, Texas, camping with my parents and brother watching it on an old black/white TV outside.

Has anyone seen Carrie's pussy (I mean, her new cat?) Go to her blog and she has some pictures of the cute thing! (the cat) Check it out (the cat) at the link to her blog at left!

Is it Monday already???

I went out for wings and beers, then a movie Friday night. Aaron, Dan and I went to see "Team America, World Police". It was hilarious.. and in a couple of parts (especially the sex scene) I was laughing so hard... we were stomping our feet in hilarity. This and they cut out a lot of the "puppet" sex scene! I can't imagine what it was before! *LOL* They had sex in every position imaginable, and then some I never DID imagine!
Yes it was silly, yes it was corny and campy, but it was still entertaining. Definitely though, NOT something for kids! Very vulgar language and scenes (yes, puppets).
All in all, it rates a 4 out of 5 on my scale.

Saturday I took my dad to get his flu shot, and he's real happy.... BUT, I found out he's lost 6 more pounds *frown*. Mom's worried as heck, so she nags him to eat, he gets upset over the nagging.... etc. It's a vicious circle.
I wonder if I can be a fat donor? *chuckling* Heaven knows I have some to give.

How about those Red Sox!!!!
BTW, did anyone see Steven Tyler from Arrowsmith sing the National Anthem before Game 1? He did a great job! (never knew he was from Boston)

Other than that, it was a pretty uneventful weekend.

And now, the news not fit to print:

I know you've seen it before.... but TGIF friends!

Yep, the week's finally coming to a close. Not one moment too early for me. I'm supposed to go out for wings and a movie tonight with Aaron and another friend, Dan. We're going to go see Team America, which should be hilarious!

Got a call from mom in work yesterday (very rare) distraught trying to find a flu shot for my dad. She'd called his primary physician, and every other doctor he sees with no luck, so she asked me if I could find him one.
First, I called the Oncology department at the health center who said they are out of flu vaccine. Then, I walked downstairs, saw my daughter's doctor and asked her in the hallway if there's anything she could do. We do have vaccine here, but it's supposed to be for our patients. Well, we stretched the truth a bit because dad's oncology doc is at UCONN, and I called in all my favors, and got dad a flu shot tomorrow in our East Hartford office (via this same doctor). Mission accomplished.

Well, on to the news not fit to print:

Political correctness reaches new level of idiocy as school district bans Halloween festivities because it might offend real witches

Hey Bruce, Did you see this story about Carmelo Anthony getting busted for pot?

If you're going to write a snappy ad for a Women's Film Festival, it might be a good idea not to call it "Films with Broad Appeal" *LOL*

And now.... my BOTD! (This one's for you Carrie...!) *LOL*

Have a great weekend all!

This week is lasting a month!

Wow this week is dragging by. Last week flew by, this week is just the opposite.
Finally I'm in my own office today, but will have to go to the main office from noon till the end of the day tomorrow.

And ok ok ok.... after spending 5 minutes on that game, I DID get a lot further. Up to level 10 where I got stuck and stopped trying. Who's at the highest level?

I'm stealing time here and there trying to set up my new notebook PC for work... and damn it's so frustrating to have so much to do, and not knowing where everything is to install, and trying to make everything the same as before. The worst part will be moving my Compaq IPAQ (handlehd) over to the new machine. It took forever to get it working on the old notebook! *laughing* Oh well, that which does not kill us.......

To add to my angst, my boss wants me to begin working a day in the main office. The ONLY worry I have is about my existing customers that I support. This has just become a really crummy week for me. Come on, weekend!

HOW ABOUT THEM RED SOX!!!

Ok, here's the news not fit to print:

That's it for today... have a great one!

Hump-Day once more...

Well, I've a LOT of work to do today, and little time to do it.
I got my new notebook PC yesterday, and there's so much to do, configuration wise, and I have to go to the main office today for the whole day (didn't end up going yesterday), so I'm going to do something different today! Hope you all like.

Tuesdays and Red Sox....

Good grief, those Red Sox just won't die!!! Which is a good thing because I'm no Yankees fan! *L* The game last night started at 5:30 and STILL went till well after 11pm!

I'm supposed to spend the day again in Farmington (main office), like I did yesterday, though with problems I have to deal with in my own location, I may be late or not make it. Time will tell!

Other than that, not much else went on yesterday, and I have to get moving on stuff here in work.

Monday Morning Blah's....

Back to work after a wonderful weekend.... it's really fall now. The leaves are falling from the trees, the weather's turning nippy.. and the football season's in full swing!

Remember last Tuesday, I told you my daughter and I went shopping and she made a Red-Sox bear at the Build-A-Bear Workshop? Well here it is! She gave it to her boyfriend last night and he loved it.

I found a couple of fun links over the weekend. Remember the ole "20 Questions" game? Well now you can play it against a computer! Try it here.

Also, I found Alice, an artificial intelligence program that's pretty darn good! Try carrying on a conversation with her, it's eerie.

Other than that, the weekend was nice. Today however, I have to go work in at the main office, so I won't be here in my own office for most of the day.

Driving in this morning, I wonder to myself why on earth do most women LOVE to stay in the left lane, even if there's plenty of room in the middle or right? They'll camp out in the left lane for dozens of miles rather than move over one lane. Genetics? *chuckle*

This coming Friday, Aaron, my friend Dave, another friend Dan and I will probably do a happy hour, then out to see the movie Team America. Should be hilarious as all the papers loved it!

And now, the news not fit to print:

TGIF...!

The weeks seem to be just FLYING by! Seems only a week or so ago it was the middle of summer, and now, the leaves are changing very quickly and falling ever so slowly to the ground.
Nostalgia time....
I'm constantly amazed at just how fast the weeks fly by as I get older. When I was a kid, it seemed like summer was 8 months long. We used to play baseball almost every day at a nearby lot, or behind a school down the street. Yep, there was Carl, Joey, Jon and Tom (brothers), Jeff, Jim, Lonnie, Joel... a bunch of us. And yes, like so many emails you've seen go around, we actually DID go home when the streetlights came on. We had a basketball hoop on our garage and kids used to come over all the time to play... used to be a lot of fun. Our bicycles had bannana seats and sissy bars.. *laughing as I remember*.. we had a corner candy store 3 houses away, and we knew the owner by name (and he us).
Ahh... those were the days...

No plans yet for the weekend... how about any of you??

And now, the news not fit to print:

Ok, I'm going to say this just once... SOME PEOPLE IN TENNESSEE ARE IDIOTS! (not you Bubba) Vadergrrrl, maybe this should be your new cause? *L*

Have a great weekend all!

I smell a weekend ahead....!

And not too soon either! *L* As I get older, I look forward more and more to weekends. Maybe it's just me.
Anyone watch the debate last night? It was one of 3 things I was flipping between (UCONN Football, Red Sox/Yankees and Debate), and it STILL looks like Kerry's a lot smarter than Bush. Good grief the man comes across like an idiot sometimes. That scares me.

It's one of the more beautiful sunrises this morning... there are clouds on the horizon, which makes for a very colorful sunrise. I wish everyone could see it. *S*

Has anyone tried the new browser from Mozilla, called Firefox? I'm using it now at work and home, and it's excellent! There's some great plug-ins for it too. You can right click on advertisements, and banish them forever from your PC! Man, that's way overdue! *L* Plus, it's a LOT safer from spyware.. that annoying crap that pops up on your PC.

Well, not much more to report, so I'll get to the news not fit to print!

Hump Day redux....

I'll tell you, the days are getting shorter quick! The leaves haven't even begun to fall off the trees yet, and normally at this time we have many bags of leaves picked up!

For all you sports fans, read this article about Kobe and Shaq's problems in LA last year

Hey Colin, what happened to the Soz last night??? Sheesh... that stunk.

Tonight, there's so many good things on TV. The Debate (not that I'd watch it), Game 2 of Sox vs Yankees, and the UCONN Football game against West Virginia.

Work's creeping up on me fast today, so I'll have to get right to the news not fit to print:

Ok... What's THIS kid thinking??

I keep trying to tell Carrie... that Canadians are weird.. but.......
You'll be relieved to note that a gigantic bronze statue of Sasquatch holding a case of beer gets the greenlight in small BC town

and lastly...

Have a great hump-day!

Back to work damnit...

Yep, back to work and it's still real dark outside.... the ONLY thing I hate about fall and winter is the darkness. I think I'm borderline "Sunlight Affective Disease", or SAD. *chuckle*

So, yesterday my daughter and I took a nice trip to the mall to do some window shopping. She picked up a shirt and made a "Build-a-Bear" for her boyfriend's birthday next week, and he's adorable, dressed up in Boston Red Sox uniform, sneakers, hat, sunglasses, bat, glove and ball. I'll take a pic of him and post it here if I can tomorrow.
Me, I bought a couple of long sleeved shirts for work.
We then went out to lunch at Ruby Tuesdays, and home. All in all it was a nice "Father/Daughter" day.

This time of year, is a sports nut's heaven. Women's pro basketball is down to the wire (our Connecticut Sun is one win away from being champs), football is in full swing, baseball is in the championship series, and UCONN is playing football now, and basketball in a few more weeks! What can be any better than this?? (ok, if you're Curt, Nascar is wrapping up soon too)

Hey Karen, this is the week to beat Carrie to the first comment. *L* She's on vacation and sleeping in I'll bet (the stinker!)

Well, that's all for now... so here's the news not fit to print!

Boy, 11, drives 200 miles!

Here's one for Carrie... Twenty-year anniversary of first Canadian in space. Maple candy still stuck to shuttle seats

Uh oh. troubles for Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston! (Angeline Jolie's involved!)

How the heck does an Australian newspaper get news about Martha Stewart??? Does her reach extend THAT far??

This one defies description.

I'm going to quit my job and become an airport security screener after reading this story!

And that's, the rest of the story.. Have a great Tuesday all!

Ahhhh... sleeping in on a Monday...!

I can get used to this!

Hey Curt, you working today! *L*

Happy Thanksgiving to Carrie and all our other Canadian friends up north!

The weekend was beautiful as weather goes. Went to a nearby town's "Apple Harvest Fair" on Saturday afternoon, and had a great time wandering around all the craft type booths. Didn't buy anything, but it was a great day to look around and get some walking in.

Sunday was the normal.. go to see mom and dad with the kids, and do stuff around the house.
Today, my daughter and I are going to the mall somewhere. I love the quality time I spend with her.. and I also know she's not going to be living home for too much longer... which makes me sad.

Other than that, like I said, it was a great weekend.

Oh, remember me talking about Moe's flight simulator console? This is almost exactly what he has (and this one sells for over $2000)

I see Christopher Reeve passed away. Pretty sad.. that something like a fall from a horse did so much spinal cord damage. He toughed it out to the end though, fighting for his life, and for a cure to spinal cord injuries.

And now, for the news not fit to print:

Drunk passenger decides to be an idiot on flight carrying police rugby team. Hilarity ensues

Have you guys seen the new JibJab, It's goodto be in DC???

Hey Carrie, weird stuff goes on up there huh! Girl wins court fight to share same locker room as boys. Gentlemen, start your towel snapping

What does this tell you about Florida.. home of Governor Jeb Bush. Miami-Dade county was missed by all four hurricanes this year, yet 19,500 Miami-Dade residents applied for FEMA financial aid. FEMA approves $21.5 million--$1 million more than Indian River County, where 49,000 homes were destroyed

That's it for today... have a nice Monday!

TGIF! (Wanna come fly with me?)

I had THE most fun last night at my neighbor's (Moe) house!! He has the Microsoft Flight Simulator 4 game, with ALL the bells and whistles!
He has the flightstick with about 10 buttons on it, the rudder pedals on the floor, and this HUGE box with ooodles of electronices in it that are for:
Autopilot (air speed, direction, altitude.. and lots of stuff I didn't recognize)
Radios (2 of them, as the real airplanes have)
About a dozen toggle switches (for beacon lights, strobes, landing lights.. etc)
Switches that look like the real thing for Landing Gear, flaps, elevator control.. etc
Push buttons for replying to Air Traffic Control.. this thing was SO gorgeous!
I tell ya, I was like a kind in a candy store.
So, Moe gets it all loaded and flying a Cessna with retractable landing gear, and a variable pitch propeller. He took off from a local field that's about 5 miles from my house, and we immediately saw buildings that I recognize in our town! He flew it to the local international airport and landed. Then, he showed me how easy it was to fly a 737. Basically, above 400ft above ground, the plane flies itself. He landed it then says, "ready to give it a try?". Are you kidding me....

So he sets me up with a Cessna 172 (fixed landing gear, normal propeller.. etc.. real beginner's plane). After a few instructions, I give full throttle and at 65 knots, pulling back on the stick we're airborn. Now, I've flown in a real plane with Moe a few times, and other people too.. and pay REAL close attention when I do. I fly to the Intl airport, and perform a PERFECT landing. Moe's jaw hits the floor as he says "I've had dozens of people here, and nobody, NOBODY has landed on the first try. Must have been lucky" to which I said: "If that was luck, lets do it again" and pushing the throttle full ahead, took off and back to the smaller airport. Moe figures I'll NEVER land at this airport, as the runway's not that long, and it's very narrow. My hands moved carefully over the radios, flaps, all the controls.
Perfect landing.
So, he decides to throw in a bit more difficulty, and gives me the plane he used originally. After trimming the prop, taking off and circling (he gives me a tough route to fly), one more great landing.
So, I decide to play.. and set myself up with a LearJet 45. Moe says "I don't know anything about that plane.. never flew it even here". I tell him, "Take a chance Moe... what the heck!"
Full throttle and I take it off from that tiny airport barely making it over the trees at the end of the runway. Flying it north, we're both trying to figure out the instruments as I fly right past the Intl airport. Now, we're lost.
Finally, I see an airport in the distance and after a few bouts with aircraft control (this thing's got too much thrust for itself!), I fly it into the Holyoke Massachusetts airport. Reverse thrusters, brakes.... perfect landing again.
4 for 4.
I'm going to ask Moe to take a picture of the console he has... because you just wouldn't believe it..... cost close to $1000, but SO worth it with this game.

Can you tell I had fun?

The following story, was printed in my local newspaper 2 days ago. I almost died laughing!

Last Sunday [Sept. 26]. My husband, stepson and I were excited about being part of the Bristol Mum Festival Parade and arrived at our designated position a little earlier than needed.

Since we had been placed in the last division, we had plenty of time to talk with our neighbors and friends about everything from the storms in Florida to the upcoming Yankee/Red Sox game that afternoon. We laughed and shared stories and snacks were enjoying a beautiful Sunday together.
When the parade in front of us finally began to move, we took our place in line and the marching band in back of us started playing. We were so pleased to be participants in our town’s festival. As we made the turn from a side street onto the first main road, we were confronted with several boos, people yelling obscenities and "flipping us the bird." If it were an isolated incident, it would not have affected us that much, but the identicalbehavior continued from block to block as we made our way along the parade route.

By the time we had completed half of the course, my stepson turned to his dad and asked, "Dad, why are people like that?"

In as controlled a voice as he could muster, my husband answered, "There are people like that in the world, just smile and wave to the other people.
How would you answer that question from your child?
Free speech is a guaranteed right in our country, but does it give people the right to publicly demean our choices or embarrass our children?
Perhaps it was a good lesson for our son to learn about the behavior of some people,.

By the way, we were towing the Bush/Cheney float.

Almost Friday....

One thing, if you don't like Rodney, or don't like seeing this in my blog, don't post about it in the comments. Just go away silently.

As with Bubba's comment yesterday, Rodney's always had my respect.
Ya know, reading Bubba's comment yesterday made me realize, I too, had emailed back and forth with Rodney Dangerfield back in 1997. He was ill at the time, and I sent him some good wishes for a speedy recovery. Here's what one of his replies was:

Thanks Dave, I'm writing this as I get better.
Hey you're all right ya know. I wish I was. My dentist. There's
another one. I told him to put in a new tooth to match my other teeth. He put in a tooth with four cavities.

-Rodney

He told me in another email that yes, he did write all his emails himself, though when there were a lot, he dictated them to someone who typed them.

This is the post on his website today:

LOS ANGELES---Beloved comedian Rodney Dangerfield passed away today at 1:20pm at UCLA Medical Center following a difficult recovery from heart valve replacement surgery performed on August 25. He was 82 years old. According to his doctors, Rodney suffered a small stroke post operatively and developed infectious and abdominal complications from which he did not recover.
The Dangerfield family extends their heartfelt thanks to Rodney's team of doctors, especially Dr. Hillel Laks, Dr. Jamie Moriguchi, and Dr. David Kelly as well as all of the devoted nurses in the Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care Unit at UCLA Medical Center who provided such fastidious and compassionate care.

Following his heart surgery, Dangerfield slipped into a coma. However, over the last week, he was showing early signs of neurological improvement due to the innovative Real Time EEG Neurofeedback sessions performed by specialist Margaret Ayers. Ayers was brought in on September 26 by Dangerfield's wife, Joan.

According to Joan Dangerfield, "What Margaret was able to accomplish with Rodney was truly astounding. When Rodney emerged, he kissed me, squeezed my hand, and smiled for his doctors. To her, I will be forever grateful for giving us those moments."

On his last day, Rodney was surrounded by his family, including his children, Brian and Melanie, his father-in-law Smokey, his niece Suzie and his wife, Joan. "As we were all gathered around his bedside, one of Rodney's favorite Frank Sinatra albums was playing in the room. Rodney slipped away during the song "Come Fly With Me."

Dangerfield has bravely faced some health challenges in recent years, including abdominal aortic aneurism surgery in 1992, a double-bypass heart surgery in March of 2000 and an operation three months later to correct another aneurysm. He also suffered a mild heart attack in November of 2001 just before his birthday. In addition, UCLA's chief of neurosurgery performed a rare extracranial-intracranial brain bypass on Dangerfield in April of 2003 to increase blood flow and lessen the risk of the recent heart valve replacement.

Born Jacob Cohen on November 22, 1921 in Babylon, Long Island, NY, the King of "No Respect" and classic one-liners began his career at the age of 15 when he started writing jokes. At 17, he started performing at amateur nights under the name "Jack Roy." At 19, he had two jobs, one as a comic who couldn't make a living, and the other as a singing waiter. Rodney traveled the comedy circuit for 10 years, but reluctantly gave up showbiz for a more stable income, selling aluminum siding.

It wasn't until the age of 40 that Dangerfield made the decision to relaunch his career as a performer and comedy writer for the second time. He spent his days in a business office and his nights working in New York clubs. Determined, Rodney opened his own club, the now famous Dangerfield's on First Avenue in Manhattan. One of the first comedy clubs, Dangerfield's was a huge success and, virtually paved the way for comedy club venues across the country. Rodney introduced many of today's comedy stars to live audiences and television for the first time on his HBO Young Comedians Specials such as Tim Allen, Roseanne, Jim Carrey, Sam Kinison, Jerry Seinfeld, Louie Anderson, Jeff Foxworthy, Bob Saget, Rita Rudner, Robert Townsend, Andy Kaufman, Bob Nelson, Andrew Dice Clay, Carol Leifer, and others.

Dangerfield's feature film credits include starring in the classic hit film comedy, "Caddyshack," as well as "Easy Money," which he co-wrote, the mega-hit "Back to School," (one of the first comedy features to gross over $100 million), and Paramount's "LadyBugs." Critics also praised his realistic portrayal as the "father from hell" in Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers." He went on to star in several other films, including "Meet Wally Sparks," "My Five Wives," "Little Nicky," with Adam Sandler ,and "The 4th Tenor."

Besides being a Las Vegas headliner for over 20 years, Dangerfield also made countless appearances on talk and television variety shows. His first big break was on the "Ed Sullivan Show" which he did 16 times. Rodney also appeared on "This is Your Life," "What's My Line," "The Dean Martin Show," "Saturday Night Live," and a record 70 times on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." He has also appeared a record 28 times on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," being one of the only entertainers to have an open invitation to appear on the show. He has also appeared on "LateNight w/ Conan O'Brien," "The Simpsons," "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn," The Single Guy, "Home Improvement," among many others.

Rodney was the first entertainer to personally own a Website on the Internet, www.rodney.com. Launched in February of 1995, his state-of-the-art site has won numerous awards and distinctions as one of the most visited sites on the World Wide Web.

Prolific and active until his recent surgery, Dangerfield had made appearances on "Still Standing"(CBS), and "The Family Guy" (Fox Television). He also made a cameo appearance in the forthcoming 20th Century Fox feature, "The Onion." In addition, Rodney had also been the subject of a forthcoming documentary on his life, entitled "Rodney Exposed." He also took on the role of executive producer of the MGM remake of his blockbuster comedy, "Back to School."

Most recently, Rodney released his autobiography in June of this year, "It's Not Easy Bein' Me," A Lifetime of No Respect, but Plenty of Sex and Drugs (Harper/Collins) to rave reviews, becoming a national bestseller. Earlier this year, he had also sold the movie rights to the book. In addition, Dangerfield has recorded a special album of love songs, "Romeo Rodney," which was scheduled to be released on Valentine's Day of next year, only to surpass the famous gift of the airlifted hot tub he surprised his wife Joan with in 2003.

Dangerfield won a Grammy Award for his comedy album, "No Respect," and was the recipient of the "Lifetime Creative Achievement Award" from the 1994 American Comedy Awards and was recently honored with the "Comedy Idol Award" by Comedy Central. His famous trademark white shirt and red tie are on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

Dangerfield leaves his wife Joan (married since 1993), and two children from a previous marriage, Brian and Melanie, and 2 grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew. Memorial services are currently being planned in Los Angeles and will be announced shortly.

A Sad Passing....

One of the great self-depreciating comics of all time, Jacob Cohen, aka Rodney Dangerfield, passed on yesterday after 82 years of life.

Who hasn't heard of his famous lines "I don't get no respect", or "Who stepped on that duck" from Caddyshack, or his MOST famous line "When I was born, I was so ugly that the doctor slapped my mother".

I always loved Rodney's humor. For example, here's today's "Quote of the day" from Rodney's website:
"I tell ya when I fly, I don't get no respect. I took one of those cheap flights, no frills. I finished eatin' and had to do the dishes. And I tell ya I got no confidence in the pilot. When he makes a left turn he puts his hand out. "

There's a real good story on this CNN page about him.

Rest in Peace Rodney... you have the biggest audience in the world now!

Moving right along... I was talking to my neighbor last night, he works in the jet engine industry, and is a private pilot, and says I have to see his setup at home for Microsoft's Flight Simulator pro. He's got the steering wheel, pedals, console.. everything for flying a plane at home just like it's real. I can't wait to check that out. I love flying, and flying simulations.

From the "Did you know" files.... did you know, I've panned for gold in Anchorage Alaska, and Dahlonega Georgia (and have the gold from both!). Just a tidbit.

Doing the right thing, not the easy thing
(sorry the blog is late, Blogger's been acting up today)

Since when does everyone do the "easy" thing, instead of the right thing?

My new A/C in the server room where I work's been giving an error "Short Cycle" for a few weeks, and I put in a call and someone came out (Mark). So, Mark says.. "I can disable the alarm for you if you want". WHAT?? The alarm is there for a reason, I do NOT want you to disable it! What's causing it? "I don't know".
Ok, this is where if I were you, I'd CALL Liebert (maker of the A/C), and ask them what the error means, and how we can fix it. "Umm, I think it's when the humidifier kicks on and off more than 10 times an hour." (insert Dave here, burying his face in his hands)
At this point, Mark ambles off in search of A/C nirvana... (maybe he's been sniffing too much freon!).

Add to that, a major curveball thrown to our group at work... *frown* BUT.. the good news is I don't have to go to the weekly staff meetings any longer.

So... this week's not began so well... lets hope it gets better.

Oh, BTW... Here's the Mt. St. Helen's WebCam but keep in mind they're 3 hours behind us and you can't see a thing in the dark! *L*

I just saw a good Calvin & Hobbes cartoon.. and I thought I'd share!

And now, for the news not fit to print...

Oh this is too funny. Afghanistan's women riot police uniform includes high-heeled boots and fishnet stockings. Ready to give you the beating of your life... for FREE!

And in the "insert theme from Twilight Zone here" area, Couple 'raise' Cabbage Patch doll as son!

Oh well.. that's enough excitement for one day.. have a good one!

Monday Morning Blues....

There MUST be a song by that name....

It's incredibly foggy out this morning! There's a cold front coming through, and tomorrow night I'll have to turn on the heat finally. Supposed to get down to 28 degrees!

Friday night, I went out with my friend Dave to dinner and a movie. We went to see "Shaun of the Dead". It wasn't MY idea.. *L*
It's a spoof of "Dawn of the Dead", and a poorly written one at that. It's an English movie, with nobody I even remotely recognized (star-wise). Maybe it was that "English Humor" thing. Either way, it was funny for about 15 minutes, then became pretty moronic. I give it a 2 star out of 5.

We had a fantastic time at our friends house Saturday night, for the "Octoberfest". I brought over a nice German Riesling that was inexpensive, and we were VERY surprised at how good it was! There was about 30 different wines, and 6 different German beers. Everyone there had brought something for munchies, and there were about 30 people, so it was just incredible. There were Bratwurst, knockwurst, and some other kind of wurst on the grill, dips, some kind of sliced apples with cream cheese, warm caramel and peanuts thing that was so good..! Oh, and one of the guys there made fresh, French Onion Soup that was to die for!
For dinner, we had stuffed pork tenderloin, stuffed with apricots, and plums I think. Either way, it was to die for. The sides were all home made German dishes. By the time we left, we had drank plenty and ate even more.

Yesterday, we just took it easy.. did the normal go to Mom & Dad's with the kids, then went to the mall quickly to look at new sunglasses with wife and daughter. I have a friend that works for Sunglass Hut, that has a 50% sale coming up soon for employees, and I'm looking at a new pair of Revo's.

And now, the news not fit to print!

I KNEW IT!!! Country music causes people to commit suicide. Here comes the science!

The online bartender's all time top 100 requested drink recipes!

A disturbance felt... as if millions of teenage girls suddenly cried out in terror. Orlando Bloom proposes to Kate Bosworth

That's all for today... have a nice Monday...

TGIF My Friends!

Well, the pop-ups came back on that PC yesterday, but after some heavy searching on the net, I think I found the solution! The spyware is named Begin2Search, and is extremely tenacious! Lets hope this is the end of it.

Stayed up a bit to watch the UCONN Football (American football, not soccer) game last night, and the boys in blue won again! They're 4-1, and doing great in division 1A football (top class).

I'm just pooped today... lets hope no fire-drills happen today. I could use a nice, quiet day.

Tomorrow, we have a party to go to at our friends Ray and Debbie's house, for their "wine group", that's themed as an Octoberfest party! German food, wine and beer.. even entertainment I think.. should be fun.

What'd you think of the debate last night? I flipped back and forth with football, but I think there's little doubt that Kerry kicked the crap out of Bush. Only mistake Kerry made, was real early, when he said "find and kill the terrorists". The politcally correct statement would have been "bring them to justice". But, it seems to have been overlooked.

Anyways, here's the news not fit to print:

When responding to an advert for free gynecological exams leads you to a self-storage facility, ask to see a license!

Prosecutor in Kobe Bryant case grudgingly admits that there was some evidence that suggested that Kobe was innocent DUH!

Release of "Alexander" delayed because of too much "male on male" action in the film. Do you like gladiator movies, Timmy?

Ten things you need to learn about going to a strip club

And now, for my BOTD.. and todays theme is "Would you like something to drink with that"

Have a great weekend all!
