This week is FLYING by... It's incredible... I'd have thought with only 11 days till vacation (7 work days), that the days would drag by, but this week's flown by so far. Of course, I've been busy as heck in work, which helps. The weather's finally breaking.. it was almost 60 yesterday, and the same today. I'm sorry to say that everyone will probably beat Carrie to the comments after today, as she's going to be restricted to where she can go online. *frown* Don't forget... Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend! Hey Paul, are you ever going to blog again?? And you Bubba?? And Curt.... more more more!!!! *chuckle* Well, on to the news: Hold Music Website! Is this Wednesday??? Well, I WAS going to write a blog entry early this morning, but Blogger was down! So... here it is, late but still here. Yes michelle, I am feeling quite a bit better, just a small cough remaining. Other than that, not much to report today... so I'll throw some good news tidbits your way: Police find clues as to why firefighters were giggling and looking for some more Doritos and cupcakes on a recent call World's largest known prime number found -- 7,816,230 digits long, nearly matching same number of News Flashes about Terry Schiavo case Hey Colin, what's with this? The Day After Monday...! Yeah, lately Tuesdays are a lot like Mondays... but a day later! *L* I know I haven't mentioned it, but both UCONN mens and womens basketball teams have lost and are out of the tournament. Yeah Curt, your North Caroline's still in it. We'll see for how long. Oh, and Duke Sucks. There may not be a blog tomorrow, as I have to go to the childrens hospital real early tomorow. Things are going to be so busy in the next few weeks... this coming weekend we have a very fancy "Wine Dinner" at a gorgeous banquet hall, the following weekend we have a party for Ray's daughter passing her CPA and her birthday. Two days after that is our cruise. Busy busy busy! Today I have to travel to an office quite a ways away, about a 40 minute drive. It's always nice to get out of the office. Nothing much else going on... so we'll get on with the news: Newcastle motorists looking forward to new goddess with 100-foot-high breasts This is WAY too funny: Some people have to be told that Lebron James cannot make four straight 90-foot jump shots In the "This is hardly likely to happen" department: Church official wants Prince Charles to apologize to his horse's ex University of Wisconsin professor plans to test the deady effects of stun guns on pigs -- In other news, 1/2 off pulled pork sandwich special for undergrads And in EBay news: Some idiot bid $5600 for a ROCK! Another Rainy Monday... Yep, another Monday, and it's raining. (better than snow though) 14 more days till the Cruise! I can't wait.... I'm feeling better this week, though still coughing a bit. Aaron came down with what seems like the same thing on Thursday. Seems it's going around. He was so sick, we had to call off our poker game at his house Friday night. Hopefully we'll do it again after I get back from the cruise. Other than that, Friday my daughter and I went to the mall looking for something for my wife for our 25th. Saturday, got my truck washed, ran some errands, went to the wine store we normally go to for a wine tasting of 4 nice wines, then we rented a movie, "The Village". Definitely not what I thought it would be, but it was good. Yesterday, we had my parents over, and my brother and sister in law. Then, my wife's brother dropped off her mother at our house. All in all, it was a great Easter. Everyone had plenty to eat, and a lot of fun. And now, the news: Today's "high school teacher gets freaky with her 16-year-old student" story brought to you by Parker, Colorado (with pic that addresses hittability rating) Well who'da known! Russian scientists discover that being bullwhipped helps stave off depression. BDSM dungeons will now be known as depression therapy centers This is pretty cool.... a friend sent this to me. That's all for today... work calls already..! Have a great Monday (if that's possible) Thursday, March 24, 2005
MORE FRICKIN' SNOW!!!!! I thought this was Spring??? By the time I got home last night, it was snowing so hard I could hardly see across the street. This was the wet, heavy kind too.. making driving very slippery. Thank goodness we were all in early. This morning, we got about 7 inches at my house. With any luck, most of it will be gone on Sunday, when it's supposed to be in the mid 50's. Aaron's out sick today. Hope ya get better soon bud (like by tomorrow night, when our card game is supposed to be at YOUR house!) *LOL* Yep, we're supposed to have a poker game at Aaron's house tomorrow night. The family will be coming over for Easter on Sunday.. so that should be nice. Other than that and the poker game, not much planned this weekend. Oh, and no blog tomorrow as I'll be off for Good Friday! Well, work calls so here's the news: Just what we ALL wanted to know! Back to work... *cough, cough* Yep, I have bronchitis. Went to see the doctor Monday afternoon. I felt this coming on, last Thursday. Felt awful Thursday night, and was in bed at 7pm. Friday, I really wanted to feel good, as we were going to take a half day off (some friends from work, and my friend Ray), and go see UCONN play at a sports bar for some beer and wings. I made it through the game, but at 5pm, I felt like hell. I went home, stayed up for maybe an hour and collapsed into bed. Then, it settled in my chest. Coughing, wheezing.. *frown*. Monday, I stayed home and went to see the doctor. He gave me some drugs, and cough syrup that I can't take at work (makes me drowsy), and the rest, you know. I just wanted to curl up on the couch all weekend, but I had to go out twice. Once, as our kitchen fawcett died, so I went to Home Depot and got a new one that my friend Dave installed for me. It's one of those new fancy ones that pulls out from the stalk. Sunday, my wife begged me to go with her to see a formal couch and loveseat she found, as she has a gift card from a bonus she got at work that she has to use up. My daughter drove, and I grudgingly went. I liked what she showed me and said "buy it". Then, we got into the typical wife of mine. "Well... I'm not sure........" which really ticks me off. My daughter and I told her to just get it.. she's the one that picked it out, but she's SO afraid of spending money.. *groan*. She ended up buying it, but cancelling it the next day because she was too nervous. She was up all night worried about a darn couch. She drives me nuts sometimes. More tomorrow. Here's the news: 2 Just for you Carrie: Canadian accused of driving drunk blames liquor-filled candies Canadian hospital to person with heart problem: "We can see you in three months, and if the person named on this computer-generated letter is deceased, please accept our sincere apologies" Darwin visits Alabama.... And the madness begins... March Madness is in full swing now.. the NCAA Basketball tournament began this week and yesterday there were 16 games. Today, I'm taking a half day off to watch some of the games, including UConn with some friends at a sports bar. When I left work yesterday, I felt so awful.... when I got home, I immediately collapsed on the couch and tried to watch some basketball. I ended up falling asleep for about an hour. I felt like someone beat me up with a baseball bat. When I woke up, I was so cold, I was shivering. I put on a sweatshirt, and watched a bit more basketball before going to bed a bit after 7pm. Today, I feel a bit better.. so I came into work, and can't wait to watch some basketball today. No plans for the weekend... so I'll just play it by ear, and watch a lot of basketball. Not much more to say today... on to the news: Wow, Val Kilmer's a real guy after all! You KNOW you're pathetic when you run for mayor, unapposed and LOSE! Black hole created in a lab. What could possibly go wrong? Someone's auctioning off a homestead on Mars, on EBay! Or would you bit on a pair of mens, haunted boxer shorts? *LOL* And now... My BOTD! Have a great weekend all...! Erin go Brah(less) Well, it's official..... I'm coming down with the cold my wife's just getting over *groan*. I was supposed to go out to work at a childrens hospital today, but I'm going to stay put. No sense in getting them sick too. St. Patricks Day. Did you know St. Patrick wasn't Irish? He was British. I believe I must have been Irish in another life... as I "feel" part Irish. Wife and I even went to Ireland in 2000, and had a WONDERFUL time. I'd love to go back too. It's such a beautiful country, and the people are the most friendly I've ever found. Here's the official Irish St. Patricks Day Website Go out and have some corned beef today, and hoist an Irish beer (or if you insist, a green domestic beer) and have fun. And now for some Irish Fun: Unscramble the words below, that all have to do with the Irish Send your answers to my email only please! 1: MARKSCOH 2: WINBROA 3: LODG 4: LEERMDA LISE 5: CHEAPLNEUR 6: HISRI JGI 7: RAFISEI 8: CEGALI 9: YARNBEL NOTES 10: REDALIN 11: NASIT KIPARCT 12: LIDBUN 13: TICCLE 14: RENEG 15: RHIIS WEST 16: SIRIH GIBSENSLS Other than that, and feeling crummy, not much else new... so, on with the news: Pizza delivery man held on drug charge. "Well, not actually 'nursed.' But I came close, and it was devastating. Now give me money" Can you say frivolous lawsuit? Bad; the cops pull you over for speeding. Worse; you're drunk. Terrible; you have a homosexual sheep in the back And folks, nothing can follow that. Have a great St. Patricks Day! Wednesday, March 16, 2005
Hump-Day.. wishing it were Fri-Day! This week is taking forever! I don't know if I mentioned, but I'm taking a half day Friday to go with some people in work to a sports bar for Beer, Wings and Basketball!!! I can't wait. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day.. the day we ALL feel a bit Irish. Me, I think I was Irish in a former life. When the wife and I visited Ireland in 2000, I felt at home there, and fit right in. Life seems so much simpler, and relaxed there. I forgot to mention, my daughter told me Monday, Hey Dad, it's Pie Day today!. I said, huh? Then I got it... Pi day! 3.14 The date.... *groan* Here I thought I was going to get some pie... *L* My side business is going pretty well, with lots of PC's brought to me lately with problems. People just don't protect themselves and do rash things I guess, then they pay me to fix the problems. Can you say "Ka-Ching"? And now, the news not fit to print: Yo, Bubba.. come here and check out the Double-Wides! Hey Colin!!! Engineer says that he can no longer vouch for safety of Boston's "Big Dig" tunnels. Citizens now worried their "cah" will end up in the "hahbah" Just for you Carrie... When (Canadien) Clowns Go Bad! Why do I blog? Someone asked me yesterday, "Why do you blog"? When I began blogging, in April of 2003, it was to release some "angst", over my son turning 18, and thinking he was the "master of the universe" and that he'd be able to do any darn thing he wanted to. I was quite upset over it, and the blog was a good outlet for how I felt (many people blog for some kind of release of emotions as I understand it). It was also a place to talk about my dad's cancer, and how it scared me, and our family. Well, almost two years later, he finally got his tongue pierced, and a lot of water has passed beneath the bridge. Originally, there may have been 1 or 2 people that read my blog, now there may be a dozen or so. Some, I've never physically met, but they're friends just the same. Now, I write my blog, with a sense of "normalcy". Like it's something to do every (work)day, and while I probably don't "need" to write it, I enjoy it. I enjoy making people laugh at the wacky news, and try to keep them up to date with what's going on in my life. Some may choose to skip over my life, some may not. That's why I blog. And now, the news: Thanks to Aaron for the next one: From Colorado, it's Frozen Dead Guy Days! The 100 Greatest TV Theme Songs List with write-ups and multimedia links (My favorite is still WKRP in Cincinattti) Mars Spirit Rover gets unsolicited cleaning of solar panels. Aliens with dirty rag, spray bottle demanding at least a dollar Problem: Business slogan too long to advertise on the side of any normal dog. Solution: Peanut the Wiener Dog billboard Finally, a technological advance for the athlete who wants amaretto-scented balls Ok, this is probably the absolute funniest thing I've ever posted here. Please visit and read the article. Washington town auctioning off the privilege - nay, the HONOR - of presiding over a testicle-cooking contest That's all for today... have a great one! Too short a weekend.... Yeah, this weekend went by WAY too fast. Saturday, watched some Basketball with Ray, then Saturday evening, we went to a wine tasting at the home of one of our wine group's members. Now, I see how the other half lives. This had to be a 1-2 million dollar house, in a gorgeous area with a breathtaking view. The interior.. well, we could only wish. The wine tasting was a lot of fun. The theme was Mediterranean, and there was great wines and food from that area. The home owner, a wonderful man named Mike, showed me a new kind of Vodka I've never had, called Ston, from Estonia. By far, way better than even Grey Goose that's my favorite! By the time I went home, I was glad I wasn't driving.. as I was smashed! *LOL* Needless to say, I was asleep before my head hit the pillow. Yesterday, we did the visit mom and dad thing, then went to the mall to look for some after shave for me that I think they discontinued. Then, just puttered around at home till the NCAA basketball selection show, to show who plays where and when in the College Basketball Tournament beginning this week. Hey Mike, how'd UCONN Men get a #2??? Hey Paul, how about Illinois huh! Yep, March Madness is now officially HERE! Here's the NCAA.ORG printable Bracket! And now, the news not fit to print: New list will be released that shows salaries of people across the U.S. The bad news: You make a lot less than a talking sponge with a dubious sexual identity Just what *cough* we all needed... The Rap Dictionary. Ay yo trip, 86 that fugazi 4-9-3-11 If you are the assistant chief of the sex crimes division, don't go writing love notes to your 16 year old girlfriend with your office e-mail account That's it for now... it's going to be a busy Monday! Pictures are big, so give them time to load. More soon. Yeah, we're supposed to get MORE snow today.. *groan* Have I mentioned, I'm ready for Spring?? This weekend I have a bit of running around to do tomorrow morning, then tomorrow night we are going to a wine tasting party, with a Mediterranean theme! Should be fun. The UCONN Husky Men won their first round game last night, tonight they face Syracuse for the third time this season. Both times before UCONN won, but never easily. Oh, and did anyone see the new trailer for Star Wars, Episode III last night at the end of The OC? One word. WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Well, on to the news not fit to print: Duke Sucks. Here's why. Now this is interesting! You go Bruce! (no, I mean Bruce Willis) Just for you Colin "It's not broken, it just doesn't have enough duct tape on it" is an OK motto for home repairs, but not for exposed 124-volt electrical wires Britney Spears jealous because trailer skanks everywhere want to bang her husband Cletus This one's for you Karen The senate's former top lawyer, hoping for confirmation as an appeals court judge, told senators Tuesday he doesn't have a Utah law license because he never thought he needed it for his job as lawyer for Brigham Young University Cat born with 2 faces. Ok, it's freaking COLD out there! Yep, it's in the single digits this morning. Where's my Spring???? Not much new on the home front.. I'm just about to upload the first of a few PowerPoint presentations of pictures from the Costa Rica trip. It'd be too large to do all one file, so I'll post here when I upload the first one. My buddy Ray should be coming over tonight to watch the first UCONN Men's game in the Big East Tournament. They'll be playing Georgetown, and it's always a very physical game. I called the guy that went on the fishing trip with us, that had taken a picture of the real big fish I caught, and why am I not surprised.... the whole camera came out blank. They refunded him the price of the camera, but he lost all his pictures of his vacation and me my fish picture! Oh well... so goes life! And now, the news not fit to print: Now here's an idea.. South Africa's women soccer team to be given tighter t-shirts to attract fans for 2007 World Cup bid Vendor falls critically ill after attempting to prove that her food did not cause the food poisoning that killed 26 children. In other news, I'm not eating in the Phillipines. Ever (ps, what IS a casava ball??) Child-support workers caught in stairwell of state building with their pants down. "We were just talking" Hey Carrie, I knew it was cold there... but this cold? And one for Bubba: Ambitious North Carolina hunters raise sights from squirrels to airplanes "Hey Bubba, look at that gol-danged big bird I just shot!" And that's all for today folks... have a great Thursday! Wednesday, March 09, 2005
Wacky Weather! First, Sorry Mike, you're right. Last night the UCONN Women played RUTGERS, not Notre Dame, and won easily to become the Big East Champions. So, it rained yesterday morning, but in the space of 30 minutes, the temp dropped 12 degrees, and the snow came down. HARD. There was blizzard/white-out conditions for most of the afternoon, including the evening rush hour. It took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to go what normally takes me 25 minutes to go! The roads were all ice, with packed snow atop. I've never seen the highway I take home go so slow. And it's supposed to snow again on Friday *frown* Other than that, the big news is that I registered another domain name yesterday. Yep, I am now the proud owner of http://www.pcgeekweb.com ! I even hosted it through godaddy.com, and it's really a great deal. Right now there's just a placeholder page there, but I'll put something up there soon. Well, I did put ONE thing up there, the godaddy super bowl commercial (the long version). Warning, it's 7+MB in size, but it's great. And now, the news not fit to print: Man gets pot back from police along with apology A man with six months to live is told by an Italian court to come back in 14 months to hear the outcome of his case Man takes plane on joyride. Probably would have gotten away with it, except he forgot to lower the gear for landing As my friend Neal told me once... it's not IF you'll ever have a wheels up landing, it's WHEN! *L* Seems like there's one of these every day now! Man wins tequila-drinking contest, Darwin Award on the same night And that's the news... have a great Hump Day all! Tuesday, March 08, 2005
March Madness Has Arrived! Yep, this is the time of year when College Basketball Fans salivate! The conference tournaments are underway, and next week the NCAA Tournament begins. The UConn Women are in the Conference Finals tonight against Notre Dame. The UConn Men are playing Thursday against a team yet to be named. I love March! Nothing much more to say right now, so on with the news: Look at the winning bid for Tawny Paek's Breast Implants! Hey Aaron, how come nobody called US for this? Another Monday... grumble, grumble, grumble Boy this weekend was WAY too short, and that darn Carrie had today off! blowing her a raspberry for sleeping in! This weekend was pretty uneventful.. I worked on making my Costa Rica pictures into a Powerpoint Slide Show... though it's going to be a huge file. Watched some NCAA basketball (UConn won again), and generally caught up on things that I needed to do. I've started looking around at Corvettes for sale, as I hope to get one this spring (not a new one, but only a few years old). We'll see how that pans out. Other than that, no news from me to report, so on to the news not fit to print: Those wacky Russians: Time Gate found in Antarctica! As if we need another reason to drink beer: Germany's oldest man dies, claimed that drinking beer was the secret of his long life And those wacky Norwegians! Norwegian ski jumpers leap into trees for contest. "Oww, my balsa are in mahogany" Ok... this is way too weird! Behold: The USAF Top Secret Nuclear Powered Flying Triangle Thingy in all its glory. TGIF... once again You know, it's pretty sad when I read the paper at night, and see a guy I grew up with, went to school with... passed away. Same age as me. *frown* 41 Days till my 25th anniversary cruise...! I hope this will be a quiet weekend... I could use some "normalcy". Last part of the Costa Rican story: I forgot to mention, the resort offered free scuba trials... so I gave it a try. I thought it'd be hard, but it was very simple, and a LOT of fun! I was swimming around in minutes underwater, breathing through the tank and loving it! On last Saturday night, the hotel gave us a nice "Sunset Cruise", on a beautiful boat, complete with drinks and snacks. Dolphins were following the boat as we went out, and the sunset was breathtaking. The captain took his time on the way back, and the stars came out... and it was so peaceful. I'd go back again.... it's a beautiful country. More pictures next week. And now, the news: 'Crazy big' breast implant being auctioned on eBay Boston's FleetCenter to be permanently renamed Thursday, March 3rd. Fark.com Duke Sucks Center and UFIA Arena reportedly not under consideration In retrospect, police think that perhaps it might have been excessive to use a 50,000 volt taser on a handcuffed thirteen-year old girl. And another... for missing last week! Have a great weekend all! Thursday, March 03, 2005
Good grief this is a long week! And it's a short one too! Seems like it's taking 2 weeks to get to Friday. Back to Costa Rica: The Buena Vista Lodge/Canopy Tour was on Wednesday. On Thursday, it was a pool/pool bar/lazy day. At night, about 25 of us got some vans to take us into town, where they were having a celebration for a local holiday. We all walked around, looking at vendors of local goods and foods, and there were row upon row of furniture from Nicaragua, that was gorgeous, and very cheap! By this day, we had eaten a couple of times at the "fine dining" restaurant at the resort, and the food was very very good. They do seem to undercook your beef there though. Ask for Well Done, and get Medium. Go figure. Other than that, the days were pretty uneventful. On Friday, 5 of us went deep sea fishing on a real nice 31 foot boat called the "Hammingbird". Within 40 minutes of dropping our first line, all 5 of us had a fish! In all, we got 13 fish in the boat, and a few more that we hooked and jumped when they got to the boat. All in all, we had a GREAT time! More pictures soon. And now, the news: Have you ever wondered whatever happened to the plane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11? No pieces of it were EVER shown. Watch this! Kobe Bryant reaches settlement in civil trial. Agrees to drop off money at the back door Alas, poor Bubba, we hardly knew ye. Break out the butter Las Vegas Mayor endorses gin to fourth graders Ok.. this is way too funny: Man screws nut onto penis, bolts to hospital when he can't get it off Yahoo turns 10, gives away free ice cream at Baskin Robbins! (click for coupon) And that's the rest of the story for today... have a good one! Wednesday, March 02, 2005
Another Day of Snow... *groan* Yep, we got about another 2-3 inches of snow last night.. just enough to make it real slippery this morning. More on Costa Rica: For the first 3 days, it seemed life in Costa Rica went like this. Get up, shower. Breakfast, pool, lunch, pool, dinner, drinks by the pool, with lots of trips to the pool-bar in between *chuckling*. 90 degree weather was very condusive to drinking and swimming. Me and the bartender were on a first name basis on the first day. On Wednesday, we went to do the "Canopy Tour", meaning we ride from tree to tree in the rainforest, on wire cables while in harnesses. Now me, that's DEATHLY afraid of heights, was very worried about this. We went to a place called The Buena Vista Lodge, at the base of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano (active). We got into our harnesses, then hiked up the side of a mountain to the first platform (there's 11). After some brief instructions, I got up on the platform, and was amazed that the next platform was about a hundred feet away, and the average height above ground was about 15 feet. Piece of cake I said as I slid from one to the other. THEN... I saw the second platform to third. About 200 feet, where the ground fell away very steeply to probably 100 feet down or so. I was beginning to get worried, and starte tensing up. The guy hooked me up, and I swung across, trying hard not to look down. At the next platform, I looked ahead to the next one, and almost fell to my knees. It was about 400 feet across, and you couldn't even see the bottom. Everyone else was having great fun, and I was starting to see my fears unfold before me. I asked if there was another way, and was told I'd have to go to the 4th platform to reach the "air bridges", or tree to tree walkways. I tried to concentrate on the next tree, without looking down... and slid to the next platform. I knew now things were getting out of control, as my forearms were hard as stones, and my legs were shaking quite badly as were my hands. I had to do one more wire before quitting, so I gutted it out (it's a lot harder than you think, when you're deathly afraid of heights) and made it to the 4th platform. From there, I asked to go the way of the bridges. My wife would have gone with me, but she had already slid to the next platform, so I set out on my own. At this time, I began to see even the air bridges wouldn't be easy. They too, were very high, and swung a lot, depending on how you walked. It was slow going, and I had to keep concentrating on the next tree as it was just as far down as the zip lines, but I felt a bit more in control. After quite a long hike, I made it to the bottom. It took me quite some time to get over the feelings from up on the platforms. Oh, and if you're a REAL thrill seeker, you can try the harder platform ride. It's 1.56 miles long, the highest platform is at 300 feet, and the largest distance of the cable among platforms is 2,400 feet with a great speed for adrenaline lovers Good freaking luck. After that, we rode down a HUGE waterslide, that was so incredibly fast and out of control it was definitely a thrill ride. After a fantastic lunch, we headed out on horseback to the Spa, where you spend time in a volcanic heated steam room, then cover yourself in volcanic mud, let it dry, rinse it off and dip into 5 pools of inreasingly cooler water (first one is 107 degrees). By the time you're done, you're VERY relaxed! It was a good day.... though I wish I wasn't so afraid of heights.. it would have been much more fun for me. More tomorrow. From 90 degrees, to snow! Yep, I've just gotten used to the 90 degree days, and I get back to snow, snow and more snow!!!! More on the trip: The airport at Liberia, Costa Rica is hilarious. It's an oversized hut with a fabric roof! Open air and all. Oh, and there was no "jetway", so they wheeled up the stairs for us to get off the plane. The ride to the resort was about 40 minutes, and it looked great, even in the dark. Getting to our room, we immediately turned on the A/C as it was about 80 still.. and after 20 minutes, it started leaking water all over. Called service, and they came in about 20 minutes and fixed it up. Never had a problem with the room again. The next morning, we headed down to breakfast.. a nice, short walk from the room down to pool level. The food was outstanding, with lots of choices, inculding a person making any kind of eggs/omlettes you'd like. There was always an abundance of fruit available, that was just perfectly ripe and sweet. The coffee was fantastic, if a bit strong. After breakfast, we found our lounge chairs we had staked out earlier by the pool, and rested for a bit before taking a dip in the huge pool. The pool-bar opened at 10am, and I'm happy to say I opened it every day I was at the resort! *S* (you have to have SOME priorities you know!) More tomorrow.... and here's a bit of news: Chicago residents surprised to find flying squirrels in town.
