Post 552 THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!!! It's been one heck of a week at work... and I'm glad this week's about over. Luckily, the weather's supposed to be real nice too. Last night was wonderful, so the wife and I took a short ride in the vette. Stopped over to see our friends Ray and Debbie, and they told us they booked a trip to Turks & Caicos, in August. I'd be worried about hurricanes.. but they got a great deal, and for now, they've mostly stopped (for the time being). Have you heard, Revenge of the Sith is due on DVD on November 1st??? I don't think we have any big plans this weekend.. so we'll just see what happens. My daughter left for Florida last night.. so that leaves the house a bit more empty.. I can't imagine how I'll feel when she eventually moves out! *gasp* Other than that, not much else new... so, it's on to the news: Trying to compete with summer beaches, museum invites public to come expose themselves to erotic works in the nude Bad-writing trophy won by man who compared fondling woman's breasts to repairing carburetors Kim Basinger arrested for punching her son in the head and attacking him with an electric cord and ashtray The line starts behind me: Coke claims to have invented a drink that actually burns calories Oh come ON!!! Women sues Denny's for "toilet burn;" probably shouldn't have ordered the Lumberjack Slam And now... Today's B'sOTD! And one more... Just because she's MY kinda girl! Enjoy your weekend all! Post 551 Hmm, yesterday's post was 550, this is 551. I'll get it yet. Well, we had some SEVERE thunderstorms come through around dinnertime last night.. and it's finally cooled down. My dauther is leaving today for a trip to Miami to visit a friend till Tuesday... must be nice to be a teacher and have the summer off! *LOL* But you know I'll miss her. Hey Porter, thanks for the info bud! Glad to hear you're coming home soon! *S* Well lilpuppy... with 5 wrong, we may have to re-patriate you! *chuckling* And michelle, you know you're "irregular" to me!! *wink and a laugh* I thought today, I'd make everyone smile with some jokes.. so here we go: (I thought Porter would like this one) BEST COMEBACK EVER A Soldier tells about an incident in the grocery store he stopped at yesterday, on his way home from the base. He said that ahead of several people in front of him stood a woman dressed in a burkha. He said when she got to the cashier she loudly remarked about the US flag lapel pin the cashier wore on her smock. The cashier reached up and touched the pin, and said proudly, "yes, I always wear it and I probably always will." The woman in the burkha then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi. A gentleman standing behind the soldier stepped forward, putting his arm around his shoulders, and nodding towards the soldier, said in a calm and gentle voice to the Iraqi woman: "Lady, hundreds of thousands of men and women like this young man have fought and died so that YOU could stand here, in MY country and accuse a check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that had you been this outspoken in YOUR own country, we wouldn't need to be there today. But, hey, if you have now learned how to speak out so loudly and clearly, I'll gladly buy you a ticket and pay your way back to Iraq so you can straighten out the mess in YOUR country that you are obviously here in MY country to avoid." Everyone within hearing distance cheered. The Top 10 reasons you know your SUV is too big: 10. If you get in an accident, the EPA comes out to investigate the oil spill. 9. To get to the back, your kids have to use the moving sidewalk (standard on the '05 model!) 8. On long road trips, not one of your kids ever complains, "He's touching me!" 7. Kids keep asking if they could blow something up with "your tank." 6. You accidentally run over your neighbor's pet... Honda. 5. It doesn't have cup holders, it has keg holders. 4. You have a rope ladder installed for easy entry. 3. You can't merge because there are 3 cars in your blind spot. 2. It came with a Texaco Seal of Approval. 1. As you drive around town, you hear women yell: "Sorry about your penis!" And now, for the news: One month before Microsoft goes live with new security key, hacker in India breaks code, generates keys for free Space Shuttle Debris Pictures (and the bird) Wow... this is weird Parents cleared of sexual-abuse charges over photo of dad kissing his baby boy on the belly button Microsoft's army of lawyers overlooked the fact that Vista is already a brand name of sewing machines, elevator equipment and a detergent that will help those lawyers clean their underwear That's it for today... enjoy your Thursday! Post 549 Another HHH day and worries about a friend Yep, today's supposed to be hotter than yesterday! The good news is, a cold front is coming through tonight so things should get better tomorrow. My bud Dave was taken to the hospital yesterday.. seems he had a persistent headache, then had problems with his arms either being cold or going numb (his wife was in a hurry to head to the hospital so I went over to watch their daughter, my God-Daughter). My daughter took over for me at their house when it got late (she's off for the summer) and she left me a note this morning that they couldn't find anything last night. I hope it doesn't happen again to him. How many of you watched the shuttle take off yesterday? I found a TV in work and turned it on... I love watching takeoff's. I sure hope they all come back safely too. That's about all that happened in my world yesterday.. I'm just relieved that Dave's back home and doing well. Hey PorterSR, what branch are you in bud? Keep up the good work over there and I like your blog! Oh, also... Take the "Citizenship Test" and see how you do! I got 90+ on it taking it 3 times (different questions). Now, to the news: Good Grief! Yet another mom arrested for having sex parties for her son And a post JUST for Karen! A quick drink brings some good vibrations as sex-toy vending machines are installed in pub. Who needs a bag of nuts? This was small enough, I wanted to put it all here. Things like this REALLY PISS ME OFF! Leading economic indicators: In June, Co-President Stephen S. Crawford of the financial giant Morgan Stanley (who was installed in the job in order to ensure management ''stability'' during the company's currently shaky status with investors) signed a two-year contract at $16 million a year which allowed him, if he changed his mind, to resign and promptly collect all $32 million. A few days later, he resigned. The ''stability'' was needed at faltering Morgan Stanley because longtime CEO Philip J. Purcell had just been eased out, but his contract called for $113 million in severance pay. Hey Colin, this is embarassing about your state! Road crew embarrassed after installing Alabama highway signs in Massachusetts. Residents more embarrassed that they never noticed Man killed in freak accident in haunted house. Police on the lookout for a focused, non-terminal, repeating phantasm or a Class Five full-roaming vapor. A really nasty one, too And that's it for today... stay cool! Tuesday, July 26, 2005
Can you say HOT???? Yep, today it's supposed to get to 98 degrees, with over 70% humidity which will make it feel like approximately 105! Wish I had a swimming pool! *S* I was glad to see michelle post again yesterday... she's a "regular, irregular" if you know what I mean.. *LOL* she's here whenever she can, and is a very special friend. I also want to thank all the new "regulars" for posting yesterday. lilpully, PorterSR, and Norcross Bob, a VERY dear friend that I was fortunate to meet through my last employer. We've done some fun stuff together, haven't we Bob! Damn though Bob... you really DO have to keep in touch more! *laughing* Yesterday was a busy day spent at the main office, but it was fantastic as my boss wasn't in, and won't be in today! I got a lot done there, and it was actually fun. Oh, Blogger finally fixed the counter for how many blog posts I've done... can you believe it? 548 of them! WOW! I should have had a party for #500 though *LOL* Today's going to be real busy catching up on things I didn't get done yesterday because I was at the main office. So... with that, I should get moving. On to the news: Young women, religious protesters, horny guys flock to bar for free breast-implant contest (with pic of winner) Hey PorterSR, you need one of these! Marines to shoot at Iraqi insurgents with frickin' laser beams Now Karen will find this interesting... *LOL* Archaeologists discover 28,000-year-old penis statue; unsure whether this counts as a stone tool (with pic) (we all know what it looks like) And that's it for today... STAY COOL! Monday, July 25, 2005
Another week begun.... *groan* 74 More days till vacation... beginning to need one now.. *chuckling* The weekend went by WAY too fast. Friday night's wine tasting was MUCH bigger than I thought. There were well over 200 wines there to try (no, I didn't try them all but I tried quite a lot of them). They had munchies from many local restaurants and all was fantastic. My wife however, got SO smashed! *ROTFL* She's such a funny drunk.. and so seldom gets tipsy. When we got home, my daughter was in tears laughing. Luckily, she got up the next morning feeling fine. Saturday and Sunday, the weather was perfect. Warm but not humid. I took the Vette out both days.. and it was just wonderful. My dad's doing well... gained another 4 pounds last week! Yesterday, Aaron stopped over our house with Carrie... it was great seeing them both! *S* They brought me some beer that I can't buy in the US, but they DO get in Canada called Kilkenney's Irish Draught. I absolutely ADORE this beer... it's my very favorite, and now I have a case of it! *big smile* Welcome again, to lilpuppy who has her own blog, and also to PorterSr, who is serving our country overseas. (He's a tank driver in Iraq) Other than that, not much more to report this morning... it's going to be a VERY busy day, so I have to get going. Hmmm, there won't be any comments from Aaron or Carrie I don't think, for a few weeks... and Bob as they're all on vacation... so lets see who really DOES read this! On to the news: Here's a great European Geography Game. I got 28 out of 45! Talk about OOPS! Albany firefighters practice by ripping into minivan...wrong minivan This is too funny.. Palm beach residents already complaining about sculpture of mythological figure. Specifically, her massive, pendulous breasts (with pic) Oh I WANT one of these! *ROTFL* Buy your own four-meter Gundam. Comes with guns. That's it for today... have a great Monday..! Friday, July 22, 2005
Where has the week gone? Yep, this week has FLOWN by, because I've been so busy... but that's a good thing. Yesterday was one of the best days I've had in the main office yet. I was busy, it was fun work, and things went well. Welcome to two new readers, Porter SR, and lilpuppy! Umm.. if you two have blogs, how about posting a link to them so I can check them out please! *Smile* Looks like a beautiful day out today (sunshine and blue sky right now) but it's supposed to get hot and humid again today. The weekend however, is supposed to be gorgeous, so you can bet I'll have "the toy" out this weekend! I called mom yesterday, dad's still doing well.. I'll see him on Sunday. Aaron's leaving for a 2 week vacation today. Drive carefully bud! Carrie's on vacation too! Good grief.. Bob's gone too.. who's going to read my blog? (well, I KNOW Karen will!) *LOL* Tonight, we're going to The Warner Theater for a wine tasting with our friends Ray and Debbie. (scroll down to bottom to see info on it) Should be a lot of fun. The rest of the weekend... no plans yet. And now, on to the news: A do-not-call registry.... for DEAD people! Hey Karen, did you know yesterday was National Diddling Day? *ROTFL* My "MUST SEE" of the day: But honest officer, I WASN'T sniffing that gold spray paint! (with pic) The 20 hamburgers you must eat before you die. Not surprisingly McDonalds and Burger King not on the list. NSF Vegetarians (Connecticut made #20) Is there a more stupid lawsuit? Skateboarder falls off her board (at midnight) and gets branded by manhole cover, sues Con Ed More INCREDIBLE 3D street art! And some great headlines: Teens charged as adults with making bomb threat to shut down Nantucket ferry service. In other news, federal prison is not where you want to become acquainted with the man from Nantucket Tractor trailer containing $1 million in Xerox machines stolen. Police fear copycat crimes And now, My Friday, BOTD! And One more.. just because I can! Have a great weekend all! Thursday, July 21, 2005
It's ALMOST Friday...! Yep, and only 78 days till vacation again! *chuckling* Hey, whow as the anonymous commenter yesterday from Michigan??? It was beautiful out last night, so I took the Vette out and picked up my bud Dave for a nice long ride (wife didn't want to go). Tonight, he and I may go out to get some dinner, as his wife's away for a few days. Hey, today is the 36th anniversary of man walking on the moon! Well, Trucker Bob is off on his adventure... lets hope he has the wind at his back, and the sun in his face. Has anyone here ever watched "Ghost Hunters" on the Sci-Fi Channel? It's about a group of guys (plumbers by day) that started a business called The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) and it's pretty good. It on, on Wednesday nights usually and these are regular guys, with a lot of high-tech gear trying to debunk ghost sightings/hauntings. Not a bad show all in all, check it out if you have a chance. I've got to go to the main office to work today.. but I've got plenty to do there, so it should even be fun *chuckle*. Going to do lunch with the guys there too, so at least I know I'll eat well (like I ever have to worry about that!) And now... the news: If you live in Uganda, and you're a virgin, you can go to College for FREE! There are no such deals for men. Talk about descrimination! U.S. to extend Daylight Saving Time by two months. Canada reluctant to follow, thinks extra hours of sunlight will damage crops Oh those wacky rednecks... Teen warned he's close to contempt of court, responds with, "Well you all are getting real close to pissin' me off." Jailarity ensues I'm very sad to report, James Doohan, Star Trek's Scotty has passed on. This is cool.. an anagram generator! This is an amazing site... Man stands up 10 ton slab without the use of power tools or extra terrestrials (and more) That's it for today... enjoy your day! Wednesday, July 20, 2005
Happy Hump-Day! Well, the humidity is FINALLY breaking. This morning, I actually had the windows open on the way to work.. it's that nice out. It is however, going to be up near 90 today. This weekend is supposed to be great though.... so I'm happy for that. From my comments, I'm going to welcome a new viewer, Christine, who writes the blog "100 REASONS WHY I HATE MY HUSBAND!" I stumbled upon it recently and it's pretty good, if not partially tongue-in-cheek. This week's been very busy, and today won't be much different. Tomorrow, I'll spend some time in Farmington (main office), and then it'll be Friday already! The week flies by when you have lots to do. My bud Curt (see his blog at left side) finally posted after a long absence.. and it's good to see him back! Hey Mike H, do you still read this? How about you Colin? I was talking to my bud Ray last weekend, about reading the paper. Do you have a special "Way" that you read the paper? I do.... first, it's the comics, then, the sports page, then, the local news, and LASTLY, the national news. (comics first because I have to smile before I get to the awful news). How about, do you also believe there should be more GOOD news in the papers/tv news??? Well, on to the news not fit to print: Oh boy Aaron... we're in trouble! Nine-year-old girl becomes Microsoft certified professional. Memorial tombstone to America's technology industry about to be planted next to the manufacturing memorial Boy bangs friend's mother, brags to wrong person. Conjugal visits ensue (with MILF pic) Proof that people will take anything as fact: People in Midland, Michigan, scramble to the pumps on price hike fears due to Walmart gas at $3.03. Fail to notice that the gas station is under construction Good news for Dark Chocolate Lovers (like me)! Now here's a blog for Karen and Carrie... The Daily Kitten! That's it for today... sorry I'm late! Have a great one. Tuesday, July 19, 2005
Another day in paradise... (not) Another HHH day here.. up near 95 and extremely high humidity. The good news is, the end is in sight (at the end of the week). Well, I did finally upload some pictures from the car show I went to on Sunday. First, here's that 1912 Thomas Flyer And also, a picture of the engine. Note exposed spark plugs, and brass exhaust manifold/header. Here's the 1953 Corvette (first year) in the only color it came in! For Karen, Here's the 69 Camaro SS 396 Pace Car! And lastly, Here's the gorgeous 1966 Pontiac GTO that I loved! Seems my wife had a nice birthday last night, and loved the clothes I gave her. I'm also going to get her something on our cruise in October. Trucker Bob is going on a road trip... and I hope he has a wonderful time. Must be nice to be able to pick up anytime you want and just begin an adventure! Come back soon Bob! Well, on to the news now: Russian bakers pose naked to promote bread and buns Ok, now THIS is one of the oddest sites I've seen yet! The Urban Beast Research Site Related to that site, is The Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists Hottie teacher who slept with student refuses plea deal because she's too pretty for prison. "To place an attractive young woman in that kind of hellhole, is like putting a piece of raw meat in with the lions," says defense attorney (And she IS a hottie!) Here's a classic! Woman wants alimony from her in-laws. No word on airspeed velocity of an unladen sow File this under things that really tick me off... California school district considers teaching classes in Ebonics so that children will not have to learn that pesky English And, there's a rumor that Pamela Anderson just re-married Tommy Lee for the 3rd time! GOOD GRIEF!! Talk about a DUMB BLONDE! Have a great day all... Monday, July 18, 2005
The 3 H's.... this weather sucks! Yep, Hazy Hot and Humid.. 3 H's that you don't want to see together in the summer. The weekend was pretty much HHH, and today and tomorrow will be more of the same. Hopefully, we'll get some relief on Wednesday. The weekend was pretty nice. Saturday, I went to a car show in Ray's Cobra, that was supposed to be a very large show with lots of "high-rollers". The name was the Hartford Concours de Elegance, and he was hoping to get a buyer for his car. Well, only one person was seriously interested, though there were some incredible cars at the show. Most of them, early 1900's cars but a few newer ones. My favorites were: A gorgeous 1953 Corvette (the first year) A 1969 SS 396 Camaro Pace Car (White with orange stripes and interior) signed by Al Unser A 1966 Pontiac GTO, in pristine shape. A 1912 Thomas Flyer, built in Buffalo, that had to be the show-winner. Saturday night, we went out to dinner with Ray and his wife for my wife's birthday (today). Sunday, I went to see mom and dad, and all's well so far on that front. Went shopping with my daughter looking for something for my wife, and found a nice blouse she's sure to like. Wife HAD told me she had 3 things I could get her.... then proceeded to forget what all 3 were. *frown* Had some friends over last night for some cake for the wife and that's pretty much how my weekend went. And now, on to the news: Someone ruins Wal-Mart Swim Club's tournament by putting the "poo" in "pool". In other news, Wal-Mart has a swim club How to make authentic moonshine (w/ diagrams and photos) Coolest faucets you'll see all year. Spigotty spigotty spigotty spigotty mack Panel of Star Trek experts convene to determine why "Enterprise" failed. Finally emerge from nerd conclave with announcement that it wasn't enough like "Battlestar Galactica" Here's a good one: Rob Zombie says childhood encounter with Ronald McDonald scared him off clowns forever (I work with his brother-in-law and mother-in-law!) Who'da thunk! Strip Club Etiquette! *ROTFL* Here's one SOMEONE I know will recognize! Paddles and a bullwhip? A shopping trip at Home Depot for rope and nipple clamps? Just another day in the office for Mistress Kitten. "I like being in control, tying people up and doing nasty things to them" Have a great day all...! Friday, July 15, 2005
Happy Friday Everyone! Thank Goodness It's Friday!!! Actually, this week's flown by as I've been very busy in work. Hopefully it'll slow down just a tiny bit next week so I can breathe! Took a nice nap yesterday... felt great. It was so beautiful out after work, we took a nice ride in the Vette. Not sure what's going on this weekend... probably going out to dinner tomorrow night for wife's birthday which is on Monday. Still haven't figured out what to get her yet, hopefully we'll go somewhere this weekend to look. My daughter's home safely... and she took some nice pictures of the Rockies in Colorado. She had a great time... even visited the Celestial Seasonings Tea factory out there! How about these car manufacturers offering you "Employee Discount"... (except on certain models). What? We're not an employee if we want to buy certain cars? Chevrolet disallows the Corvette. Dodge, disallows all magnums, viper, SRT... and others. What's with that???? Other than that... it's a slow, personal-news day for me... so I'll get on to the good news! Rogue Ales wins an unprecedented four golds at the International Beer Competition in London. Submitter plans to drink a very much precedented four Dead Guy ales in celebration Mariah Carey has a "wardrobe malfunction" on German TV! (hey, I just copied and pasted this headline...) Woman miraculously grows penis, gains ability to pump gas, change tires, listen to reason And now, for the T-Shirt of the year award: Man's sexual preferences captured for all eternity in this TSG mugshot (pic) And of course, My BOTD (actually, two (or three) of my favorite things!) And One more... just because! Have a great weekend all....! Thursday, July 14, 2005
If I fall asleep... wake me up! Last night was a crazy one. My daughter's flight was delayed, and the people that were supposed to pick her up, couldn't go that late so she asked her brother to pick her up at the airport. So, he calls for the information, he's only 2 blocks away and I ask him to come home to get the info (plus I'd make sure he knows how to GET to the airport) and he says no. At this point I'm ready to go get her myself and pay the price today... but the wife talks me into letting him go, so I call him and give him the flight information. Well, we're lying in bed well after 11pm, and he calls, lost (her flight coming in 10 minutes later). He won't tell me where he is, but gives me a vague description and asks me what way to go. Now of course, the wife and I are up, and our hearts racing that she's going to get there with nobody in sight. I explain as best I can where to go, and he hurridly hangs up. I call back, again inquiring where he is and don't get a good answer. Now, I'm lying away swearing at myself for not going myself. He calls back later (I've lost track of time now), telling me he's pulled into the airport and all's ok. Daughter calls me, tells me she's in and I let her know he's on his way, and he just shows up. SO.. we get to sleep REAL late, and today I'm paying for it.... so, I'm going to take a half day today, to get some rest. (I have some time I have to use anyways before August) I'm real sad that the space shuttle didn't take off yesterday.... I so want it to go well and safely. When I was a kid, I remember all schools stopping work and turning on TV's to watch space-shots. Wake me if I fall asleep..... And now, the news: Stupid: Crooks using bank's drive-up window, sending holdup note through tube. Asinine: Teller sending $56,000 back to them BIG NEWS! In a move that can only promote road safety, 400,000 bottles of wine will be handed out at toll booths and along rural roads in southern France. Common sense surrenders Teen suffers cardiac arrest while riding Disney's Tower of Terror And finally, my link of the day. A brief explanation: The Hollow Face Illusion is probably one of the most amazing illusions we have come across. Plus this is Einstein Year. So... Grand Illusions has commissioned this particular version of the Hollow Face Illusion. This is a 1.5 times life size version of Albert Einstein's face, made from a very strong plastic. The mask can be stood up in a window and the whole face seems to follow you as you move around the room. Truly, an amazing illusion.. Click here for video. It's absolutely STUNNING! Have a great day all... Wednesday, July 13, 2005
Hump-Day, and what was lost, is now found! I've been kinda worried about shmoopsie (see poopie-shmoopsie's blog at left), as she hasn't posted in ages, and an email to her got bounced back as undeliverable. Well, she's ok, just busy (posted in the comments yesterday). Thanks for letting me know shmoops, and you ARE missed! *S* Went out to dinner last night with my friend Ray who had quite a rough day. It's a long story, but I'll try to condense it a bit. Ray owns this car, a Ford Cobra Replica, and the DMV (Motor Vehicle Dept) is giving him a VERY hard time. Seems when he bought it, he mistakenly registered it as a 1995 Ford. When he goes for emmissions testing, it fails because there's no anti-pollution equipment on it. When he bought it, he had to trailer it to the DMV, brought along a mechanic that was familiar with the car, and spent a whole day there getting it registered. They grilled him and the mechanic about safety features, engine, brakes... everything. Now, he goes to emmissions, and they say they can't pass it or give him an exemption because it SHOULD have been registered as a "composite" car. Then, it would be exempt. So, they sent him to 3 different locations yesterday chasing his tail, and nobody would allow him to change the car from "Ford" to "Composite". Everyone points fingers, he's done everything he should, and they're telling him now, hie car isn't registered legally and he shouldn't drive it! When he called me at 5pm last night, he was PISSED! His wive was away with a friend, kids are all gone, and he was going to go out to get something to eat.. so I offered to go with him to talk to him. It turned out pretty good.. we had a wonderful dinner, talked a lot and he was much calmer when he got home. Wish there were more I could do... but I don't know anyone at DMV. Other than that, dad has an appointment today where I work with an Infectious Disease (ID) doctor. Seems the infection in his cheek is pretty serious. My daughter comes home from Colorado tonight... and I'm so glad, as I so miss her! She called every couple of days.. and is having a blast there. Now, on to the news: Women want bras with style rather than comfort. Men would simply prefer easier-to-open clips This is great.. cause it happened less than a mile from where I work! Expert in eating disorders and female self-esteem collapses in a supermarket after inhaling whipped-cream can propellant BUBBA and CURT! You can DO this! Dress like a cow this Friday and get a free combo meal at Chick-fil-A Female (hottie) hockey player's mom requests co-ed change rooms. Team surrenders and returns to changeroom (with pics) That's it for today... it's going to be a REAL busy one! Have a great Hump-Day! Tuesday, July 12, 2005
I need a nap.... *chuckle* Yeah, I'm a morning person.. but even I get tired some mornings. Not sure why. Has anyone heard from poopsie shmoopsie? Her website hasn't been changed in ages, and emails to her get bounced back. hmmmmm I know I mentioned a few days ago that we're going on a cruise in October. We're going to try a new cruise line (Carnival). It's a huge ship (the Glory), about the same size as the biggest cruise ships afloat (110,000 tons, 1100 feet long), and should be fun. Plus, two of the stops are Key West, and Cozumel, which are ALWAYS fun! The countdown has begun.... 87 days till the cruise! I'm glad the space shuttle's going back up soon. It's been way too long. I understand about safety, but look how many good launches and landings we've had. I remember as a kid, when they'd bring in TV's in school so we could watch "blast-off's" of the Apollo missions. Everybody loved those. Do you remember where you were, on July 20th, 1969, when man landed on the moon? (if you're old enough!) I was in a campground in Myrtle Beach S.C., watching it on a small, black and white TV! Oh well... on to the news: Here's one for you Karen... welcome back! Come check out the hot new coffee shop in Provo, UT -- just don't try to order coffee See, you CAN lose weight eating at Mickey D's! Offended by "Supersize Me" documentary, woman goes on all-McDonald's diet and claims to have lost 33 pounds And here's one for you Bob.. Alberta might secede from Canada. Finally, a country worth emigrating to That's it for today... enjoy your day! Monday, July 11, 2005
Another work-week begins... It was a pretty nice weekend. A friend of mine, Dan and I went to see The Fantastic Four on Friday night. I thought it was outstanding. It did need just a tiny bit more fighting with the bad-guy (Dr. Doom), but it laid a great foundation for future movies. Casting was a bit off, as the Reed Richards and Sue Storm characters weren't who I thought should have played them. Don't ge me wrong, I like Jessica Alba, but she didn't do Sue Storm justice. Maybe I'm just getting tougher on movies in my old age.. *chuckle* but it was still a great movie. Dave the movie critic gives it a 9 out of 10. Saturday, we went to a picnic on a lake northwest of here, at a beautiful house for our wine club. The day was gorgeous, the wine was excellent, and we had a nice ham dinner with tons of sides. We went out on the owners VERY nice boat for a few rides, and after it got dark, we had a professional pyrotechnician there to light off hundreds of fireworks over the lake, even quite a few he made himself! All in all it was a great day. Sunday, went to visit mom and dad... dad's doing pretty good, then mowed the lawn front and back, did some trimwork, and later in the afternoon went for a nice long ride in the Vette. I'm glad Hurricane Dennis didn't do as much damage as predicted.... is it only me, or does it seem like there's a LOT more hurricanes than when we were kids??? Another Friday... thank goodness! I'm SO beat this morning. Didn't sleep well last night... and I'm ready to take a nap on my desk today. My son (Mike) called me yesterday, to apologize for the fight we all had, but I'm sure a lot of that had to do with not wanting to walk to work. While he never DID ask me to take his car, he took it anyways. He needs to learn, if he can't act like an adult, he'll be treated like a child and his toy(s) will be taken away. nuff said It looks like the wife and I are going to take a cruise in October with our friends from Alabama, Mike and Jeralyn. Absolutely WONDERFUL people, wifes so much alike, and he and I the same. We have fun no matter where we go. (he also reads the blog) Keep your fingers crossed for no October hurricanes! I'm really dying to go see the new Fantastic 4 movie. It was my fovorite comic as a kid. Nothing planned for tonight, and tomorrow we're going to a wine tasting for the club we're in at a cabin on a beautiful lake nearby. Should be great. Sunday, should be the normal stuff of going to see my parents. Dad seems to be gaining weight slowly... lets keep our fingers crossed he continues! Other than that, not much new here, so on to tne news: Great information about the stages of the Tour de France Pineapple extract, used to clarify beer, could also cure cancer, thus earning it title of "world's most useful substance" on two fronts And for the GOOD NEWS STORY of the week: Simple obituary of man with no money and no family inspires friends, co-workers into action Japanese may have created HIV vaccine, no tentacles involved Church has one million bees in walls; problem grows so bad that honey oozes through walls. Kids... you can't tell them anything, you can't kill them (legally at least) I forgot to mention, my daughter left yesterday to visit a friend in Colorado. She and I get along so well, it's scary. It's what every father dreams of for a relationship with his daughter. My son, now there's another story. He's the most opinionated, hard to talk to person I've ever met. It seems even with the good life he has at home, his friends have SO much more. He wants to quit college after 2 years, and go to an automotive school. We've tried to tell him to get his bachelors degree first, because it's free, THEN go to this school, but no... all he can think about is girlfriends, hot cars and spending money. He can't save any money from week to week, and thinks he can live just fine on his own. Well, a big argument between my wife, him and I last night had him screaming and yelling that he knows everything as usual, and basically after trying to get him to calm down and "talk", instead of yelling he wouldn't and I told him to just go (out), but leave his car home. That always pisses him off royally, but guess what.. he'll talk to us with respect or pay the consequences. So, he gets ready to go, and tells us he'll see us tonight, as he won't come home. I wave bye and he goes. Now, this is a kid, that just an hour earlier told me he was going to go try to buy a "cold air intake" kit for his car, but owes me $50 that I gave him to cover his cell phone bill. When I was a kid and owed my parents money, I didn't get a french fries at McDonalds if I owed them money. So, needless to day, things at home are in turmoil. He's pushing us beyond the edge.. and I don't know what to do right now. He supposedly comes home at 10 tonight after work. We'll see what happens. And now, the news: German pilot lands small plane on top of speeding Porsche. Unfortunately, it wasn't a stunt for a movie Here's the science of it... Why Curt and Bubba talk funny! Another Rainy Wednesday.... Well, yesterday after work, I went with my mom, dad and brother to his doctor (the one covering for his primary care doc that's on vacation), and he insists that my dad put as much food in his stomach as possible. The surgeon we saw last week said at least 1500-1600 calories a day, but mom's only giving him 1200 a day. Sometimes it seems like she goes to doctors and hears only what she wants to hear. *sigh* He goes to see a new plastic surgeon tomorrow, but I can't make it to that one. Other than that, not too much new. I'm wishing this week were over already, and it's just 2 days in (work days). Oh, and Bob... yeah man... I think they meant across bud..! *chuckling* And now, on to the news: Ok, I have 2 MUST READ'S today. They're long, but hilarious. You know how we all get those "Niverian money scam's"? You know, "I have 200 Million dollars that I have to move, and I can give you 2 million free!" Well, these people SCAMMED the scammers! Again, they're hilarious, and a must read. THE ADVENTURES OF WENDY WILLCOX is one of them. And this one, sent to a "David Lee Roth". Both are outrageously funny, and a must read. Turn your doberman into a poodle with a doggy disguise kit! What a weekend....... Well, weather-wise, it was probably the best 3 day weekend we've had in 20 years. Each day was mid 80's, no humidity.. and bright sunshine. Friday, I took a half day off, and went to Dad's house with 2 movies he wanted to see, and we watched a movie together (the original War of the Worlds). He really enjoyed it, then went to take a nap and I headed out. Friday night, Dave and I went to see Batman Begins. I give it a 8.5 out of 10, and it would have gotten another full point, but once more, he told his girlfriend who he was. Good grief, what is it with superhero movies and love affairs? Most of them (at least all the Batman movies), are 50/50 superhero movie, and love story (this one was 80% action, 20% love story). The best ones, like X-Men, have 10% love story, and 90% superhero movie. When will Batman writers learn? Other than that, to me, it was the best Batman movie yet. Saturday, I washed up the Vette, then put it back in the garage for a few, had lunch with mom-in-law, then ran a few errands, and stopped to see Mom and Dad. Took mom for a ride in the Vette, and she loved it! Saturday night, we went out to dinner with Ray and Debbie and had a lot of fun. Sunday, my wife, daughter and I had breakfast with Aaron and Carrie and some friends of Aaron's in a great breakfast place, then on the way home, we stopped to see mom and dad. Dad wasn't doing too good, and mom said not to go far, as the nurse was due at 1pm, and she wanted to see what the nurse would say. We were supposed to go see War of the Worlds with my friend Dave, his wife and some of his family but that wasn't going to work out. Well, at 1:30, we took my dad to the emergency room as his cheek was infected again, and the nurse felt it vital to have it looked at. My dad was furious, and just getting him there was a chore. Once in the ER, the place was JAMMED with people! The longer he waited, the madder he got. We were sitting next to a woman with the cutest 15 month old boy ever. He was winking at me, and smiling... and 10 minutes later when I wasn't looking, she bolted for the ER door screaming he was having a seizure. Really puts things in perspective. After 2 and a half hours of waiting, they finally got him in there where the physician's assistant thought he should be admitted. Dad was adament he wasn't going to stay, so, they gave him an intraveneous IV of antibiotics, and another bag of just liquid, and hours later, we were gone. All in all, we were there about 7 hours. As soon as Dad got home, he went to bed. Monday, I took a short ride in the Vette with my daughter while my wife did things with her mom, and brought her back to our house for lunch. After lunch, when she went back home, the wife and I took a nice ride in the vette then came home to go to the movies. She and I went to see War of the Worlds last night, and there was only about 20 people in the theater. As a big fan of the original movie, this one rated about 3 out of 10. This isn't "War of the Worlds", this was "Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning on the run". There was very little resemblance of the original movie, if any, as the whole movie was about Tom Cruise trying to save his family. Nothing if at all about the "War" against the Aliens. Dakota Fanning, Tom's daughter in the movie, over-acted so badly, she wasn't even believable. I keep telling people, this was the normal "Tom Cruise" movie, oh, and I think there were aliens in it too. Again, I was quite disappointed, although, this movie was more like the book, than the original movie. That's about it for my exciting weekend... how was yours? On to the news: This week's teacher/student sex coming to you from London 16-year-old student refuses to press charges against teachers for threesome Can she be any more sickening? Paris Hilton: "I'm the closest thing to American royalty anyway" Let the REDNECK GAMES BEGIN! Teens stretch industrial plastic wrap across roadway, not guessing the next vehicle along would be a motorcycle And this is for all the women out there *laughing* Good news guys, 2.76 inches is now "average", says study And for my MUST READ of the day: MovieJuice's review of War of the Worlds Here's a small sample: I don't know about you, but if I had a technology so advanced I could reach Earth from millions of light years away, I'd design war machines that didn't walk on stiletto heels. Where's the cosmic common sense in that? Have a great Tuesday... Friday, July 01, 2005
TGIF! And a long weekend to boot! Happy Canada Day to all my Canadien Friends! Not only is it a long weekend, but after a week of rain, it's going to be BEAUTIFUL! Weather forecast is mid 80's and bright sunshine all weekend long. Tonight, my friend Dave and I are going out to dinner and a movie. Tomorrow, no plans yet, and Sunday, meeting Aaron and Carrie for breakfast/brunch, then going to see War of the Worlds with some friends. Hopefully, I'll find some time to take the Vette out. Monday, no plans yet. My dad had his feeding tube inserted yesterday, and when I stopped over after work, he was in a lot of pain. I'm hoping that goes away quickly. I'm hoping we begin to see some weight gain soon. Anyone have any big plans for the weekend? On to the news: What do you think about this woman that sued to go topless? She feels it's unfair that men can go topless and women can't. How do you feel about that?
